OK, so we come to the Yippeee song for today. The film is ‘Naag Mandir’. Just day before yesterday we have posted a song from this film. And you know, an interesting thing happened. This film has six songs listed in the Geet Kosh. Before yesterday’s post, three songs were on the blog. And then, with yesterday’s post, this film got a double promotion. What with that song being a multi version song, actually two songs on the list – actually same song sung by two different singers – the count got incremented not by 1 but by 2. That is convention we follow on this blog. In case the same song appears more than once in a film, as a multi part song or as a song separately sung by more than one singers, then we include all such multi parts / multi versions in the same post.

On this occasion today, I present this lovely and haunting song from the 1966 film ‘Naag Mandir’ here on our blog. Mohammed Rafi – Duets – ‘अ’ से ‘ह’ तक (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 1

‘अ’ – अब जीने का मौसम आया
kya kahoon
kuchh kahaa nahin jaaye. . .
Really so – our utterances and our thoughts well nigh come to a helpless pause. The more I want to substantiate these thoughts, the more difficult I find to avoid repeating myself. And yet, the voice of Rafi Sb, the limitless nuances of emotions it carries, the multitude of expressions carried in thousands of songs – that voice, that divinity descended from the heavens, continues to perpetuate afresh, with every song that is played. There seems no end to this variety.

hullo Atuldom
Day before yesterday I sat through a movie called “Suhana Safar” looking for a suitable song to wish Sharmila Tagore on her birthday which is this week, made a few mental notes etc. Then I went for a short walk, returned and switched back on to the net to check cricket score etc and the first thing that I saw – an announcement on yahoo’s home page “Shashi Kapoor passes away after prolonged illness at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 79”. My first reaction- “oh no!” Then I thought let me see if atulites have got the news and I saw that our Rajaji had just broken the news there.

“What a find. Such a rollicking song.”
This the comment by our own Ava Suri ji, that I find on the YouTube upload page of this song. Yes, ‘rollicking’ is just the right word to describe the tenor of this song. By the way, the YouTube channel on which this is posted is titled ‘The Edwina Channel’. And for those who are familiar, this channel is managed by Dan Thomas (aka Thomas Daniel). Dan has been actively collaborating with dear Greta Memsaab, for cleaning and sprucing up digital videos of old Hindi films, subtitling them and putting them up on the YT. Our dear Raja ji is also part of this effort.

Missing Films of 1960s – 36

Aisa to hota hi hai. The name of the film sometimes is not so interesting; it seems to automatically convey a B/C grade stunt cum familiar crime and punishment fare. And so we tend to pass over such names in our search of favorites. But as always, unfailingly, it is such films that carry some of the best music that we have heard. Plus, as I realized while checking out this film, the music director is OP Nayyar. The year is 1966, and OPN is quite much in the running as one of the top music directors in the industry. And the film that I am un-packaging on this blog for the first time – it is ‘Love And Murder’.
