Donon ke dil hain majboor ‘finance’ se … film hi release naa ho to ham kya karein. 😊
Today’s song is a lovely duet song penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. But the irony of this song is that it never came on the screen despite being recorded (and shot*) for not one but two different movies. However, in its second edition the male singer was different and credit for music direction was also given to only one of the composers and not to the ‘duo’ of composers as was the case in the older movie.

Quite a few of them were successful and one prominent singer amongst them is Anuradha Paudwal. The very name brings to memory her popular stint in singing filmi and NFS especially bhajans. Her works are well documented and available on the net. The wiki page on her has detailed description regarding her career, awards etc. As such, I shall skip writing on her works.

“Double Cross”(1973) was produced by Yash Kohli and directed by Gogi Anand for Pashupati Pictures private limited, Bombay. The movie had Vijay Anand (double role), Rekha and Asha Sachdev in lead roles. The movie also had evkumar, Madan Puri, Rajeeta Thakur, Kuljeet, Sulochana(Ruby) in it. David and Manmohan had made guest appearances. The movie also had Mohan Choti, Sunder, Indra(Indira) Bansal, Capt.Manmohan, Polson, V.Gopal, Birbal, Raj Kishore, Habib, Mama, Ramesh, Lala Nazir, Jullien, Sammi, Shanti, D.Kumar, Dhanna, Baby Nalina, Sujata, Ratna, Zarina, Marie, Pushpa Varma, Parvati Shirodkar etc in it.

“Agar abhee naa to phir kabhee naa …” that is what I thought on listening to this today’s song. Since I want to see it here on the blog as early as possible, I am sharing it a couple of days after I came across it. This song is from the movie ‘Chor Ho To Aisaa-1978’. The music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. So, this is the third movie after ‘Jeewanmukt-1973’, and ‘Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974’ where the music for the movies was composed by R.D Burman and they were missing from the blog till I introduced them here. I was under the impression that all movies, at least from the ‘seventies’’ where music composer was R.D. Burman have already got represented on the blog. That is why it comes as a surprise whenever I come across R.D. Burman of 1970s that are not yet represented in the blog.

The song in this post is from the ‘1973’ movie ‘Double Cross’. I had mentioned it in my earlier post with a song from this movie, that I have memories of watching this movie somewhere in 1975-1976 at a small town Malkapur (on the Akola-Bhusawal rail route) in Maharashtra. The song ‘main jhonkaa mast hawaa kaa’ that I presented from this movie, was the only thing that I am able to associate with this movie. I had no recollections about the story of this movie and other songs till I became associated with this blog in 2012.

We have seen in the past that some of the obscure movies, ‘B’ grade movies and even ‘C’ grade movies have given us many musical gems. This has been happening from the beginning of Hindi Film Music History.
The song under discussion is one such song, which according to me deserves to be a better known song, if not a well known song. Like most music lovers, I too was unaware of this song till recently. This song is from an obscure movie from the decade of seventies. The title of the movie is ‘Hazaar Haath-1978’.

“Dhamaakaa-1980” was directed by Jagdish for ‘Nilkanth Chitra Manch’, Bombay’. It was produced by Sukhdev Dhamija. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.02.1980. It had Kiran Kumar, Sarika, Raza Murad, Appi Umrani, Sanjana, Rajni Bala, Sabi Oberoi, Makhan Singh, Albela, Sandhu, Shashi, Randheer, Shankar Bhake, Amrit Pal, Qureshi, Feroze Irani, Bhola, Manohar, Goel, Shah, Kay Dee and others. Padma Khanna makes a friendly appearance in this movie. Sukhdev Raj makes a special appearance as a ‘truck driver Sardarji’ in this movie. Story of this movie was written by B. Krishna Rao and its dialogues were written by Nida Fazli. Editing of this movie was done by Madhu Adsule.
