“Deewaar” (1975) must be regarded as one of the most influential movies of its time. Unlike most Hindi movies, the music of this movie only had a marginal role to play in the success of the movie. In fact no song of this movie figured in the Binaca geetmala finals.

I realised it only just now, literally at the 11th hour that today (8 march) is the birth anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi (8 march 1921- 25 october 1980). How could I forget the fact that Sahir Ludhianvi’s birthday falls on the International Women’s day ! This fact was mentioned by Raja while discussing Sahir Ludhianvi song (Aurat ne janam diya mardon ko (Saadhana)) this day two years ago.

“Geet Gaata Chal” (1975) was a Rajshree Productions movie. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and directed by Hiren Nag. The movie had Sachin, Sarika, Manhar Desai, Urmila Bhatt, Madan Puri, Leela Mishra, Khyati, Minoo Mehtab, Agha, Dhumal, Padma Khanna, V.Gopal, Swati, Mehmood Jr., Sunder, Ramayan Tiwari etc in it.

“Do Jasoos” (1975) was a Dimple Films production. It was produced and directed by Naresh Kumar. The movie had Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar, Shailendra singh, Bhavna Bhatt, Kamal Kapoor, Prem Chopra,Aruna Irani,Asit Sen,Appi Umrani, Ram Mohan, Manmohan Krishna, Dulari, Farida Jalal,Shakti Kapoor, Jagdish Raj etc in it, with Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar, the ageing stars of the previous generation playing the title roles.

“Khushboo” (1975) was based on a Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay story called “Pandit moshai”. This movie was produced under the banner of Tirupati Pictures Combine. Prasann Kapoor was the producer and Gulzar directed the movie. “Aakraman” (1975) was a title that came as a surprise to me. Those were the days when Hindi movies did not have titles in Textbook Hindi. “Aakraman” is Hindi/ Sanskrit for “Attack”. The tendency for movie makers those days was the use a word like “Hamla” instead of “Aakraman”, even though it was a word of normal usage in Hindi textbooks. That way one needs to give some credit to the makers of this movie that he used a Hindi title for a Hindi movie.
