As I post this song here today on this blog, I have mixed feelings.
No, they are all good feelings – just, that they are mixed.

Last night, when the 700th song of Kishore Da was posted, immediately there was a comment by Mahesh Bhai Mammadapur, requesting to know whether Kishore Da has any songs sung under the music direction of Naushad. Decidedly, this pairing is absolutely rare, because their peak periods were far apart. When Naushad was on the top in 50s and 60s, Kishore Da was considered less than a mainstream singer. And when Kishore Da ruled the world of Hindi film music in the 70s and 80s, Naushad Sb was a spent force, with really very few films to his credit during this period.

Earlier today, Atul informed me that we are now closing in on 1400 songs for Asha Bhosle on the blog and maybe I’d like to do a write-up for her 1400th?
To date, I have never ever refused a request from Atul to do a write-up – and today was no exception. I immediately said “Sure”. For it is not just a pleasure, but also an honour, to do a write-up here on this blog. And if I ever have to say “no, sorry” to Atul, it would only be because of genuine constraints, never because of any other reason.
Thankfully that day hasn’t come yet – and hopefully it will not. Anything I can do to contribute to this blog in any capacity, I’d be happy to do.

Today (31 july 2013) is Mumtaz’s 66 th birth anniversary. I find it an interesting coincidence that her peak in Hindi movies coincided with the peak of Rajesh Khanna. Mumtaz bowed out of movie industry just as Rajesh Khanna lost his crown in mid 1970s.

“Ye Kis Ki Yaad Aa Gayee, Bahaar Ban Ke Chhaa Gayee” – a lovely rendition by Suraiyya, composed by Hansraj Behl, and the verses created by Anjum Jaipuri. This, and many more such wonderful ghazals and geets have come from the pen of this talented poet, who was equally at home with the adbi shaayari in chaste Urdu, and the songs that he wrote in unsullied Hindi for the many religious and historical films that he wrote for.

This is a sequel to the Bachpan ka incident that I related the last time. My dear Peevesie reminded me of this and urged me to relate it also. It is a sweet memory which is referred to by my dad to her every time the song or scene of a particular movie comes on TV. And then we all have a good time thinking of those days.
