Today’s song is from the film Ismat-1944.
This was a Muslim social film made by Fazli Brothers Ltd., Bombay. Films made on Muslim backgrounds were started from the very first Talkie film-Alam Ara-1931. In fact, the early filmmakers were making films mostly on Muslim background – be it a Historical, Religious or a Social film, folklore and films based on the Urdu and Parsee drama company stories. The film was made by Super Pictures. produced and directed by the Banner owner- Aspy Irani, who was the husband of actress Husn Banu, daughter of yesteryear actress Shareefa. Aspy Irani was Aspindiar Hormusji Irani, an expert famous for handling Action films and C grade movies. From 1936 to 1986 he directed 55 films. Some of his known films were Johnny Walker’s Naya Paisa, Qaidi No. 911, Shabnam, Baadal etc. One day he left his home for work on 23-11-1986 and simply disappeared into thin air ! Today’s song is from the film Laxmi Narayan-1951.
In the Hindi Film Geet Kosh (HFGK), you find mention of the Genre of every film like Social, Mystery, Family, Historical etc etc. During the 50’s decade 2 types of films were common, which were categorised as भक्ति प्रधान (Religious) and पौराणिक (Mythological). Most people do not know what the difference is between these 2 categories. Films made on stories from the Holy Scriptures like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Puranas and Vedas are called पौराणिक (Mythological) e.g. Ram Rajya, Bharat Milan, Ghatotkach, Shri Ganesh Vivah etc. Films made on the events connected with or the life of Saints or Bhakts are categorised as भक्ति प्रधान (Religious) e.g. Bhakta Dhruv, Mahatma kabir, Sant Tukaram, Bhakta Pundalik etc etc. One has to remember that Bhakti Pradhan or Religious films are not from Mythology, but Pouranik or Mythological films are religious films as they are connected with the principles of Religion.Laxmi Narayan is considered as the most ideal couple wherein Beauty and Wealth are combined with the Supreme Power. In our day to day life, a couple with very good looks and matching to each other is called a “Laxmi- Narayan” joda.

Today 8th September’2024 is the 91st birth anniversary (born on 08.09.1933) of legendary singer Asha Bhonsle.
It is customary for us on this blog that we post songs related to the celebrity on the day and discuss about their filmography or biography. Today’s celebrity singer Asha Bhonsle is already a living legend and there is nothing new left for me to add as far as her biography or filmography is concerned. Much has already been written about her online as well as in the print media. Sometimes new facts are brought to our notice through publications about them. We try to include such facts when we become aware of them . There is nothing new to report about Asha Bhonsle in this post. In this post I am bringing a lesse heard song of Asha Bhonsle to the notice of music lovers. I became aware of this song recently and I liked it a lot.

Hullo Atuldom
In one of his posts, around 10 years or so ago, Atulji had written (I am not sure of the exact words he had used) that when he spoke about some of the actors of yesteryears, even Amitabh Bachchan, to his young daughter he had to give reference ‘Abhishek Bachchan’s father’.

Today’s song is from the film Mahapooja aka Shri Satyanarayan Katha-1954.
Shri Satyanarayan is not an avatar of Vishnu. It is a form of Maha Vishnu. The pooja is described in Skanda Puran, in which Lord Vishnu tells Narad how this puja will help the Human beings in times of stress in Kaliyug. The custom of following this Vrat and doing Satyanarayan pooja gained momentum in the period of the ‘Bhakti Movement’, which began from the 7th century in South India – Tamilnadu – and peaked all over the rest of India during the 15 th to 17 th century.
