Sometime in September 2019, there was an article written by Khalid Mohammed in ‘Mumbai Mirror’ which highlighted the plight of 92 years old music director and musicologist, Vanraj Bhatia. He was penniless and was struggling to meet his daily requirements including his medical expenses. He was mostly bedridden. He had not done his medical check-up for a long time due to paucity of money. To meet his daily expenses, he had started selling his old antique utensils which he had collected over a period of time.

The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 114 # Ek Gaaon Ki Kahaani-1975 #
——————————————————————————————-

I was aware of the movie ‘Ek Gaaon Ki Kahaani-1957’ mainly associating it with its song ‘raat ne kya kya khwaab dikhaaye’ sung by Talat Mahmood. However, during the tagging of this movie for ‘Yippeeeee Project’ I came across a vinyl cover of a movie having same title with Rakesh Pandey featuring on its cover. That was more than a hint for me that this could be of a movie from the ‘seventies. When I checked it in HFGK Vol-V, I found this movie made in the year of ‘1975’. (I may have read the movie name earlier in the ‘Geet-Kosh’ but may had forgotten about it).

Hullo Atuldom

I have been getting reminders and ‘pokes’ (a term from Facebook) in the form of personal messages from a few Atulites who are asking me why the sudden slump on my part. Now I know what Atulji goes through when all of us question him on “Blank days”. I also am feeling like the first-follower of the blog ‘Rajaji’ who took a few weeks to reach his 200th post with ghodi pe hoke sawaar.

This slump can be attributed to the festival season and having my Mom-in-law for company. I would like to copy-paste a thought that Rajaji has written in his 200th post (sorry for not taking your permission Rajaji)

“No excuses though – if Atul can write up and post songs every single day, I just cannot have an excuse for taking five weeks for one post. :-)”.

In spite of the mentioned reasons I managed to sneak in my post number 399 and that was only 10 days back.

Today’s song is from a film which is 82 years old – Baazigar-38.

It was released just 2 years before I was born. The word Baazigar means a Juggler, Magician, an Illusionist – one who can create magic or one who has the capacity to do the unimaginable things. Perhaps, like a person who wins unexpectedly at the last minute after losing all the while, or one who turns the tables when no one expects him to do so. I have not seen this film, nor I know about its storyline, but my guess is, it must be a story of a person who was daring and changed the game in his favour when everyone thought that he would surely lose it.
