“Dushman” appears to be quite a popular title of Hindi movies. About half a dozen movies of this name have been produced so far. In this blog, I have discussed songs from three such movies, viz “Dushman” (1938),”Dushman”(1957) and “Dushman” (1971).

The film ‘Musafir’ (1957) is one of the most endearing movies for me. It is a remarkable and a representative perspective of the cycle of life. It is about a now forgotten era when our society was still sensitive to human values and faith was the bedrock of all relationships. The film brings forth reality of small town and the simple middle class folks of the 1950s engaged in punctilious fulfilling of their daily routines of life. Many of us, who toiled ceaselessly (or have seen our parents toil) after the 1947 partition to bring up their families in the 50s and 60s, would easily relate to these themes.

The title “Dushman” seems to be quite a popular title of Hindi movie makers. I am aware of at least three movies of this name, starring K L Saigal, Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna. In addition, other movies of this title may have been produced later too.

I have discussed four songs from “Do Aankhen Baarah Haath” (1956) in the past. Here is another song from this movie that I heard for the first time only a few hours ago. This song is an inspirational children’s song. It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Sandhya. The picturisation shows Sadhya giving a vigorous and energetic dance perfrmance to young kids on this song.

Look what a remarkable gem I discovered just a few hours ago ! This song is from “Pardesi” (1957). Though I have discussed two songs from this movie already in the past, I was not aware of the fact that this movie was an Indo Soviet production which was made in Hindi as well as Russian languages. In the movie, a Russian man (played by Oleg Strizhenov) comes to India and falls in love with an Indian village belle, played by Nargis.
