This is the second offering in this series. My primary focus in this series is to introduce those films from the decade 1971-1980 that are yet to make a debut on the blog.
But instead of going chronologically I willdiscuss these songs in sequence in which I noticed them in HFGK Vol-V. And of course, special songs are to be discussed first.
And today’s song is definitely a special one – a devotional song in the ‘velvet voice’ – now this one really came to me as surprise when I read the first song in the list under this film’s name in HFGK. The singer was none other than Talat Mehmood.

Today (11 february 2015) is the birth anniversary of Tina Munim , now Tina Ambani (DoB 11 february 1957). It appears as if it was only yesterday that she made her debut in “Des Pardes”(1978). But it turns out that 37 years have passed since !

“Muqaddar Ka Sikandar” (1978) was Produced and directed by Prakash Mehra. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Rakhee, Rekha, Vinod Khanna, Yusuf Khan, Dr.Shree Raam Lagoo, Madhu Malini, Ranjeet, Kader Khan, Nirupa Roy, Jairaj, Goga Kapoor, Ram.P.Sethi, Master Mayur Verma, Vikas Anand, Manmohan Krishna, Sulochana Latkar, Harish Magan, Moolchand, Nandita Thakur, Kirti Kumar, Baby Shalu, Keshav Rana etc in it.

A novel of hardly a hundred pages, it captivates the reader from the very first line. And with this duet, another film from 1978 makes a debut on the blog. The film is ‘Damaad’ directed by Raja Rakshit. This song I would not categorize as obscure. It was heard relatively more often on the radio, and continues to be alive in memory. And what a gem of a song this one also is.

This solo song that got picked for 1978 is a real surprise. Wonderful gem from an obscure film. A song that was heard occasionally, before fading away from radio waves and settling into the quicksand of memories. As I was browsing the list for 1978, this song strummed lost memories of absolutely lovely songs and I had to pick it as tops.
