During 1970s, when I would try to tune radio Ceylon on wednesday night between 8 PM to 9 PM, tuning to the desired station was not as easy as it is for TV stations. There were so many radio stations on the same 25 metre band and getting a clear reception of Radio Ceylon, while avoiding voices of Voice of America, BBC etc was quite an art.

Bollywood movies of 1970s typically had a “disguise” song where the hero or heroine would enter the heavy security villain’s den in disguise. Their disguise would always be as the lead dancer (s) of the music troupe that was supposed to entertain the guests of the villain.

“Paraya Dhan” was a 1971 movie which had Rakesh Roshan and Hema Malini in lead roles.The movie is hardly remembered today, but R D Burman, who was on top those days, came up with great songs in this movie.

“Gora Aur Kala” was almost a swan song for Rajendra Kumar as a hero, who was pitted against a newcomer viz Hema Malini in this movie. An ageing Rajendra Kumar against a young Hema Malini- such mismatches were not quite unknown in Bollywood those days.

One of the category of Bollywood songs that I post in this blog are “rain” songs. Quite a few of these rain songs are picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. So I may as well open a further sub category of rain songs viz Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz rain songs. And all these songs are simply out of thius world.
