Today 8th September’2024 is the 91st birth anniversary (born on 08.09.1933) of legendary singer Asha Bhonsle.
It is customary for us on this blog that we post songs related to the celebrity on the day and discuss about their filmography or biography. Today’s celebrity singer Asha Bhonsle is already a living legend and there is nothing new left for me to add as far as her biography or filmography is concerned. “Ek Chadar Maili Si” is a classic Urdu novella written by Rajinder Singh Bedi. It was a story of a tradition in Punjab, as part of which, the younger brother weds his elder brother’s widow upon the latter’s death. This tradition is called ‘chadar daalna’. Compelled by custom and physical force, the male protagonist of ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ weds his sister-in-law.

(Khayyam Saab’s Sixth ‘Remembrance Day’ 19th August’2024)
Today 19th of August’2024 is the fifth ‘Remembrance anniversary’ of legendary music director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab, whom we fondly know as Khayyam Saab. He was born on 18th February 1927 in a village Rahon in the District of Jalandhar- Punjab.
From Jalandhar he came to Delhi and from Delhi to Lahore to Mumbai again back to Lahore and finally to Mumbai to start his career in Hindi Films in 1948.

In this post I am presenting a song from the ‘1979’ movie ‘Ratnadeep’. Lyrics for the songs in this movie were written by Gulzar Saab.
‘Ratnadeep-1979’ was directed by Basu Chatterjee for ‘Gayatri Movies, Bombay’. It was produced by R. Kannan and R. Jagannath. This movie has Hema Malini, Girish Karnad, Dheeraj, A.K. Hangal, Sulochana, Prema Narayan, Nandita Thakur, Yunus Parvez, Pinchoo Kapoor, Master Sagar, Poornima Jairam, R.S. Chopra, Gautam Sareen, Amal Sen, Aroop, Manmauji, Ranjeet Sood, Chandu, Vishnu Sharma, Mohammad Ali, Khoka Mukherjee, Kashinath and others. Basu Chatterjee who was director of this movie also wrote the screenplay and dialogues of this movie. This movie was based on short story by Prabhat Kumar Mukhopadhyay. “Ratnadeep-1979” was passed by Censor Board on 12.12.1979.

78th Independence day – 15th August, 2024
The nation grows older by one more year on 15th August. And hopefully wiser too. Among the nations formed in 20th century, post world wars scenario, we have indeed come a long way, and hopefully shall grow, by leaps and bounds.
The cultural conflux and amalgamation, is what makes this country what it is, that the world looks up to us for the colourful heritiage, for the values of humanity, for intellectual and literary wealth.
