The Golden era of HFM was well and truly over after 1980s, with Disco “music” sounding the death knell of HFM as we knew till then. In these “music”, lyrics were all but dispensed with.
HFM continued to have a few nice songs even during the “disco” era. There were still some artists who refused to compromise with quality and refused to stoop to the new low that was set as the new standards of HFM post 1980.

Hullo atuldom
Hope all fine here.
Today (8 june 2017) I am posting a song which falls right in the category of “How come this is not yet posted?!?!” But that is how this blog of ours (Atul’s) is. Even after 13300 songs we still have songs for the “How come” category.

Today, the 27th of April, is the death anniversary of Feroz Khan.
It feels like only the other day that Feroz passed away – the memory (and shock) of that day is still fresh in my mind. But, when I checked the year just now, I see it was in 2009. So it’s already 6 years since Feroz left us. How time flies!

Here is a song that I have wanted to send for quite some now. I will call it rare in the sense that the duet is with male singers —Kishore Kumar and S P Balasubramaniam. The two heroes are Rishi Kapoor and Kamalhaasan. The picturisation shows the heroes dancing in a local joint- call it a bar or an eating house or Tavern (I think that is the right word) run by Dimple and her dad Saeed Jaffrey.

Bappi Lahiri is widely held responsible for the deterioration in the quality of Bollywood music in 1980s. But that is not now how he started his career. He had begun with some nice music in Zakhmee and Chalte Chalte. He was getting nowhere with good music, but when he gave chaalu music, he was instantly successful, and that made him cynical enough to decide that he needed to put crass commercialisation above classy music to forge ahead in his career.
But Bappi Lahiri was capable of giving good music and he would often surprise fans by coming up with great music in the midst of shrill and plagiarised disco songs.
