Geeta Dutt – Solos and duets (03)
———————————–

My comment on the 900th song post of Geeta Dutt’s songs :

Congratulations on completing 900 songs of Geeta Dutt. Out of the 500 plus songs that remain to covered in the blog, there are many which sound so beautiful. I have made a short list of her duets and solos yet to be posted and it is difficult to decide on one. In fact I wrote down the lyrics of two such song over the weekend.

Like Husnlal-Bhagatram’s songs, I find it difficult to move past an unheard song by Geeta Dutt. Somehow she captivates the listener on first hearing. A truly gifted and versatile artist.

ik arz meri maan lo daftar ko jaana hai
mangal ka din hai aaj koi itwaar nahin hai

These two lines in the song “kyun garm sard hote ho takraar nahin hai” from ‘Chokori’ (1949) sung by Mohammed Rafi has made me to present this song which was not available on-line until SAREGAMA uploaded the audio clip of this rare song on one of the video sharing platforms in early 2019.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 71
———————————————————————————–

This date ten years ago (viz 5 september 2010) saw business as usual in the blog. Six songs from six movies were discussed chronologically in the order in which these movies were released.
Here are the details:-

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Mat bolo bahaar ki batiyaan re Prem Nagar-1940 11 songs covered out of 13
Udan khatole pe ud jaaun Anmol Ghadi-1946 All songs covered
Aadmi gareeb ho ya ameer ho … sambhaalo dil zaraa Dil Bhi Tera Ham Bhi Tere-1960 All songs covered
Begaani shaadi mein Abdullah deewaanaa Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai-1960 All songs covered
Ho more gore badan pe gulaabi nazariyaa na daal Sikandar E Azam-1965 03 songs posted
Sansaar ki har shai ka itna hi fasaanaa hai Dhundh-1973 All songs covered

One can see that “Prem Nagar”(1940) and “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) are the only two movies from that day which still have a few songs left to be covered. “Prem Nagar”(1940) balance songs are not available, so that leaves us with “Sikandar e Azam”(1965) as the only movie eligible for the “Blg Ten Year Challenge” today ten years later on 5 september 2020.

Today’s song is from a film having a familiar title – Lakhon mein ek-1947, but this film is hardly known to anyone. The title is familiar, because there were two more films with the same title, in two different decades later on. One was Lakhon mein ek-1955, which had a less known Heroine Asha Mathur, opposite a veteran Jairaj. It had music by Bhola Shreshtha. The other film was Lakhon mein ek-1971, which had an unknown (till then and later too) debutante Heroine- Radha, opposite comedian Mehmood. This film had music by R D Burman and few songs became popular for some years.

Today’s song is a Parody song from film Phoolwari-46. It is sung by Mohantara Talpade. Jayashree T and Meena T were her brother’s daughters, I believe. Mohantara was a major female playback singer in the 40s. Starting with film Mamaji-42,she sang 117 songs in 54 films, till Inaam-55. Though she got married in 1950 to Dr. Ajinkya, she continued with using her maiden name to avoid confusion. Mohantara was a popular Bhavgeet and film singer in Marathi also.
