This movie had an ageing ( read already aged) Dev Anand paired against the rising star Hema Malini. The movie turned out to be a hit. The story line was quite engrosing and the movie was shot in exotic places like Nepal and elsewhere.

Hema Malini tended to figure in rather “Bhartiya Naari” kind of songs, but there were occasions when she was seen singing in front of lowly creatures aka “kuttons and kameenos” much to the chagrin of Dharam ji.

Early years of 1970s saw a trend ( short lived though) where we had some songs where the the lyrics were quite direct. I call such songs as “straight talk” songs, where there is no beating about the bush. I have already posted a few such “straight talk” songs, for example “dil machal raha hai” from “Khalifa”.

Jaane chaman jaane bahaar

I had listened to this song quite often in Radio Ceylon “aaphi ke geet” programme , which was a farmaishi programme catering to listeners from Jhumri Tilaiyya and elsewhere. But I do not think this song became particularly popular in Binaca geetmala or with those plying records on loudspeakers during those days of 1974. In fact, I was not even aware which movie this song was from.

In Bollywood masala songs, there is this typical situation where the hero must enter the high security den of the villain. The hero makes it to the den in disguise and the villains are unable to identify, despite his disguise often being nothing more than a thin moustache.

In 1970s, Rajesh Khanna was the reigning male superstar whereas Hema Malini was the dream girl. But the two hardly paired with each other. Rajesh Khanna was mainly paired with Mumtaz and Sharmila Tagore, whereas the pairing of Dharmendra and Hema Malini was taken for granted those days.
