I wonder if regulars of this blog notice the contents of the box that appears at the beginning of each writeup. It shows the day number of the blog as well as the post number. In case the movie makes its debut with the song then the movie number of this movie in the blog is also mentioned.

Yesterday (17 january 2020) was the 4200th day for the blog. It would seem that this occasion (described by me as artificial landmark 🙂 ) passed off unnoticed.

I began to take notice of this kind of century sometime in 2017. From then onwards I have been noticing it regularly. Noticing this event has been made easier because the day number accompanies each post now a days. this practice was started from 1 january 2018 at the initiative of Sudhir Jee and it has become a regular practice since then.

Hullo Atuldom

Happy festival at the outset.

A festival that goes by various names :- Makara Sankranti (AP, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra), Pongal (TN & Pondicherry), Lohri (Punjab, Haryana, Delhi), Sakraat & Makraat (Bihar, UP, Uttarakhand), Uttarayan (Gujarat, Diu, Daman), Suggi (in parts of Karnataka), Magh Saaji (HP), Ghughuti – (Kumaon), Makara Chaula (Odhisha), Kicheri (Poorvanchal, East UP), Pousha Sankranti (Bengal and North East), Magh Bihu (Assam), Shishur Sankraat (Kashmir ), etc etc. Outside of the country, in some neighbouring Asian countries to be exact, it is celebrated as Maaghe Sankrast – Nepal, Tirmoori – Sindh Pakistan, Songkran -Thailand , Pi Ms. Lao – Laos, Thingyan – Myanmar, Mohan Songkran – Cambodia etc. Basically we are all celebrating the transition of the Sun across the Equator, on it’s journey from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-20) – Song No. 1
——————————————————————————

Welcome all to this first post under the ‘Blog 10-Year Challenge’ in this year “2020”, where we will be going back to the movies represented on the blog in the year “2010”.

Today we begin our journey in this year with a not-so-popular but yet a nice hummable song from the movie ‘Aashiq Hoon Bahaaron Ka-1977’. I had planned the post in the month of December’2019 itself when I had browsed for the movies represented in the month of January’2010.

Hullo Atuldom

Today is the date when we think of our favourite innovator of the 70s and 80s. The songs he composed for his debut, in the 1961 released “Chhote Nawaab”, were of a different flavour from the music he created in his later years. Of course, I don’t need to mention that today is Pachamda a.k.a R D Burman’s remembrance day.

It is 26 years since his passing and we, his fans, still talk of him in present tense. We do not tire of describing his love for experimenting with sounds- using a glass and spoon or broom and comb to create the opening note of a song; or asking an artist to gargle warm water to provide a dramatic effect to a scene. Asha Bhonsle has often mentioned how she had to practice breathing to sing “piya tu ab toh aaja”.

Hullo Atuldom

Wishing everyone a Happy (last) Sunday of 2019. Last chance to be a TEEN for this century.

December saw a few posts from me and like last year I missed sending posts for a few birthdates for which I would have liked to write posts. But here is the song which I was saving up for today.

Today, 29th December we are thinking of THE FIRST SUPERSTAR of Bollywood. Born Jatin Khanna in 1942 in Amritsar and brought up by his adopted parents in Delhi and Bombay. He was a schoolmate of a person called Ravi Kapoor (Jeetendra). They grew up in the old Bombay region of Girgaon and attended school in Thakurdwar area. They were active on the stage in their school and college and even won prizes in Inter-college drama competitions.

—————————————–

Welcome all to this post where once again I take you all back to the songs of seventies.

I originally wanted to present this post during the ‘Diwali festival’ since this song brings back my memories of ‘Diwali vacation’ days of my childhood. L liked this song as well as the other songs from this movie.

The song is from the ‘1975 movie ‘Warrant’. I was around seven years old then when the movie was released in 1975.

Hullo Atuldom

We are into the last month of 2019. There are a lot of messages being forwarded on WhatsApp and other social media platforms urging the reader to enjoy the last TEEN year in a long time to come, after this the new millennium will be on the threshold of adulthood (India has 21 as the official age at which a person is considered an adult).

Here is the first birthday post for the month. Let us all wish the “raunaq e blog”- titled bestowed on the recipient two years ago on this date- a very Happy Birthday. May she be forever healthy happy cheerful and full of life, as she has been described by Atulji and Sudhirji in their posts in the blog.

Hullo Atuldom

24th November 2019 is the 75th birthday of Amol Palekar – the actor who played a common man or the boy next door character so convincingly that it jolted the audience when they saw him play a cold-blooded murderer in Vinod Chopra’s “Khamosh” (1985). He played a similar grey-shaded character in “Teesra Kaun” (1994) and “Aanchal” (1980). So, it is not as if he always stuttered in front of a strict boss as in “Golmaal” (1979), “Damaad” (1978), a person who is hyper worried that he will die of some grave illness, leaving his beautiful young wife grieving – “Meri Biwi Ki Shaadi” (1979) etc.
