The name of Bhagat Singh evokes strong emotions in the hearts of all Indians. This great son of Punjab laid down his young life fighting for the independence of India from the rule of the British aggressors.Bhagat Singh was born on September 27, 1907 to Sardar Kishan Singh and Vidyavati in the Khatkar Kalan village in district Layallpur in of undivided Punjab (now in Pakistan). Many senior members of his family were part of the Gadar party, and the spirit to fight the British was inherited in his blood.

“Niraalaa” (1950) is a movie starring very young Madubala and Dev Anand. And this movie also has some superb songs sung by a very young Lata under the music director of her mentor C Ramchandra.

“Teerandaaz” (1955) is a movie starring Ajit, Madhubala, Jairaj, Kuldeep, Helen etc. This movie, which apparently was a B grade movie has passed into oblivion and its prints no longer seem to be in existence.

“Samaadhi”(1950) was a movie starring Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jaiwant. Few people today may be bothered about its story, but what songs this movie had ! Absolutely timess songs and a few of them in fact continue to influence Hindi movie songs even today. For instance, the song Gore gore o baanke chhore(Samadhi) is still popular among musical plagiarists for their remixing. When it comes to a patriotic song,Kadam kadam badhaaye jaa (Samadhi) is as iconic as they come.

“Night in London” (1967) is a movie that was clearly inspired from “An Evening in Paris” (1966). “Night in Paris” (1967) had Vishwajeet and Mala Sinha (as against Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore in “An Evening in Paris”).
