“Aankhen” appears to be a very popular title for a Bollywood movie. The debut movie of Madan Mohan was called “Aanken” and in the last one decade or so, we have had two movies by this name- one starring Govinda and another one starring Amitabh Bachchan.

“Talaash” (1969) had awesome music and a nice story line. In another time and era, this movie would have gone on to become a musical blockbuster. But unfortunately this movie had to compete with “Aradhana” and it was a knock out contest. “Talaash” was knocked out and “Aradhana” won.

Here is a superb “party song” from “Anita” (1966). I wonder if this should be called a cabaret song as well. It seems that the dance was supposed to be cabaret but the costumes of the dancers is very much that of classical dancers.

Lata Mangeshkar was very fond of a folk song that belonged to the village of her grandmother. In 1950s, she asked C Ramchandra to create a song based on this folk song and C Ramchandra created a superb dance song in “Aasha” (1957) that was picturised on Vyjyanti Mala. This song, which was written by Rajinder Krishan was “tu na aaya aur hone lagi shaam re”.
