After watching so many “teasing” songs, I find non- teasing songs such a sight for sore eyes. These are songs where the boy is treating the girl in a dignified manner and the girl is not minding his advances. Here is one such delighfully picturised romantic song from “Ghoonghat” (1960).

Songs play a very important role in the overall experience of a movie goer. Normally it takes a while before the first song kicks in. But there are occasions when the movie begins with a song. Credits are rolling in and a song is playing in the background. As the credit ends, so does the song, and the story begins in the right earnest.

I recall listening to this song quite a lot and liking it too. I knew that the song was sung by Mahendra Kapoor, but that is all I knew about this song. And as this song ran its course, I forgot all about this song.

I have talked about “teasing” songs in Bollywood movies. In these songs, the boy typically would tease a girl outdoors. But I just realised that this teasing can take place even indoors, and that too in the presence of others. Yes, get together songs offer an ideal opportunity to the boy to tease the girl in full public glare.

When “Fakeera” (1976) was released, I pooh poohed it as a B grade movie. Even the reviews of this movie in magazines seemed to bear me out that the movie was no great shakes.

“Hamraaz” (1968) was a suspense movie though one would not realise that from the songs. The movie had Sunil Dutt and Vimmi in lead roles, with Raj Kumar and others for company.
