The voice behind these songs, this person, carries a link back into the soul itself – such is the power and the fascination in this voice. It would be a very tough job, to find a Mukesh song that one could say “naah, not worth the listen”. What maybe would seem lacking in numbers is more than made up by simply the quality of sound and the eminence of rendering.

“Beti” (1969) is a movie which had Sanjay Khan, Nanda, Kamini Kaushal, Kishor Sahu, Rajendra Nath in it. I have not seen this movie but it is my theory that a movie whose title included words like “Beti”, “Bhabhi”, “Bahu” etc tend to be a tales of women who are shown sacrifices just for the sake of it. I do not know whether I am correct in my assesment of this movie that I have made just by looking at the title and the starcast. I request our knowledgeable readers to help confirm/ refute my guess about this movie.

Digging for songs by the so called second rung music directors is the same as wading through unheard and lost melodies from films that are now obscure, and even more rare than the songs themselves. One can just imagine – the time that these movies would have been created and released. Whatever the film, the team that creates it always has a motivation for enthusiasm – whether that motivation be money, or fame, or simply the love of the art. The team knows that it does not have the (so called) best of players or directors or writers or composers. And yet, I am sure, as the film is being created, as the songs get written, and as the music gets composed, there would be a keen eagerness in the minds of the team members, that they have a winner this time. If the star attraction is more, and the hype about the film is great, then a large, very large number of people will go and see it. And at times, the music is so catchy that it becomes the talk of the streets.
