kuchh jodiyaan duniya mein bahut kam milti hain
magar jab milti hain to ghazab ka aalam hota hai

There are combinations of artists that have created some wondrous songs and music. But the disappointment at times is that these artist may have had really very few opportunities to work with each other. Yesterday, as I started to select some songs to post for today to celebrate Mukesh’s anniversary, this thought came to my mind. And I started to look for some songs that Mukesh has sung under the music direction of Jaidev. Just putting together these two names, sounds like a great combination that expected would be creating some wonderful gems together.

Avinash Scrapwala is one of the “newer” contributors to the blog. He seems to have discovered the blog in june 2011 but decided to become a lyrics contributor only in late august 2012. His first lyrics contribution that appeared in the blog was Pyaar ka badla mujhe dekho kaisa mila (Ye Hai Zindagi)(1977). This song was a nice song containing the old world message of being content with one’s fate and staying humble despite becoming successful. If one looks at the lyrics contributions of Avinash Scrapwala, a good number of these songs are philosophical songs, inspirational songs, songs with a message etc. -feel good songs in brief that have a therapeutic effect on the listeners- what I also call “mental massage” songs. 🙂

Genius of Jaidev
==========

Asha-ji had released an album of her songs as a tribute to MD Jaidev, where she gave number of songs that ware recorded but never utilized or published. She also requested Amol Palekar to let her include some of the numbers from his unfinished films. I have no information and am in total dark about Amolkar Palekar’s unfinished film ‘Footpath’, from which today’s song is posted. I request some knowledgeable members like Arun-ji to shed some light to it. (Tamaso ma Jyotir gamaya)

Genius of Jaidev
=============

The twelfth gem in the series of ‘Genius of Jaidev’ is from a 1978 film ‘Tumhare Liye, based on the tale of lost love, sacrifice and reincarnation. Produced by Raj Tilak and directed by Basu Chaterjee, it had lyrics by Naqsh Layalpuri and music by Jaidev. The star cast included Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Neelam Mehra, Indrani Mukherjee, Anita Guha, Brahm Bharadwaj, Suresh Chatwal, A K Hangal, Dinesh Hingoo, Pinchoo Kapoor, Ratnamala, Zarina Wahab, Om Shivpuri etc. In spite of the mighty cast of that time, the film flopped at the box office and the excellent music of Jaidev went mostly unnoticed except of a Lata’s song ‘Tumhe dekhati hun to lagta hai’. Two songs from the film are already covered and discussed on this Blog.

Raag Maalikaa in Hindi Films – 10
======================

Dil Ki Raahein (1973) was produced by Majjeda Movies and directed by B R Ishara. The star cast included Rakesh Pandey, Rehana Sultan, Sulochana, Johny Whisky, Dilip Dutt, Amrit Pal etc. Naqsh Llayalpuri provided the lyrics and the music was by Madan Mohan. The music of this film did not impress the masses and it was one of the least popular music amongst Madan Mohan’s films. However, one Lata’s song ‘Rasm-e-Ulfat Ko Nibhaayen’ became a collector’s item amongst Madan Mohan’s fans.
