Under the banner of Navketan ( Navketan Films, Navketan International and Navketan Enterprises), there were many films which have become immortals. Films like ‘Nau Do Gyarah (1957), ‘Kaala Baazar (1960), ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ (1963), ‘Guide’ (1965) and ‘Jewel Thief’ (1967) have been known for the good story and screen play, good music and fast paced direction from Vijay Anand in particular, the song picturisation in these films. Each of his films germinated from new ideas.

Today (4 january 2013) is the 89th birthday of poet Neeraj (DOB 4 january 1924). Neeraj, who made his debut as a lyricist in 1960s, had a chequered career in Hindi movies from 1960s to 1980s. Unknown to music lovers, some of the memorable songs of 1960s and 1970s are penned by him. For instance, Aaj madhosh huaa jaaye re (Sharmili), Apne hothon ki bansi bana le mujhe (Gambler), tan man tere rang rangoogee (Archana), Bas yehi apraadh main har baar karta hoon (Pehchaan), Aaj ki raat bahi shokh badi natkhat hai (Nayi Umar Ki Nayi Fasal), Shokhiyon mein gholaa jaaye phoolon ka shabaab (Prem Pujaari) , Likhe jo khat tujhe(Kanyadaan) etc.

“Sharmilee” (1971) was a Subodh Mukherji production movie. It was directed by Samir Ganguly. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Rakhi, Nazir Hussain, Narendranath, Ranjeet, Uma Dhawan, Dulari, Asit Sen, Anita Dutt, Kundan, Iftekhar, Rashid Khan, Jayshree T, Krishnakant etc in it.

From the details furnished by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our inhouse walking encyclopaedia, it was seen that “Gambler” (1970) had five songs and as many as four songs from the movie had already been discussed.

The title of the movie “Cha cha cha” is unique and one of its kind. It also indicates great songs. “Majhli Didi” (1967) is a movie which was based on a novel by Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay. The movie was produced by K G Pictures. Kochi Sarkaar and Gopal Mukherji were the producers and the movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji. Nabebdu Ghosh wrote the screenplay.
