I was not aware of this film ‘Saveraa-1972’ or its songs. I came across this film through HFGK and the music of this film being composed by R.D.Burman attracted me towards it and the very first song appearing in the list is sung by Bhupinder Singh.

So everything was perfectly set for an exciting and wonderful song, but yet to be explored and given that very less numbers of Bhupinder Singh songs are available how can we miss this song.

As has been mentioned in the earlier posts of the day, today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. One single article was posted on the first day of the blog in 2008. The blog remained one song a day blog for the first forty days and then we began to post several articles every day. Today, seven year later, the blog has well over elevent thousand songs. If one takes an average, it turns out to be an average of 4.5 songs per day. Come to think of it, maintaining this daily strike rate for seven years is quite an achievement.

R D Burman composed over 1700 songs in Hindi movies. Only 19 of these songs had the voice of Mukesh in them.

When I came across this figure yesterday (it is mentioned in the book -R D Burman- the man the music), I looked in the blog and also searched the list of R D Burman songs in HFGK.

Today (27 june 2015) is R D Burman’s 76th birth anniversary. Today is saturday and therefore a weekend day and so I should have more time at my hand to post more songs on the occasion. Three R D Burman songs have been posted in the morning so far and after that there was nothing.

It is not that I have kept idle since then. I have been doing quite some research on R D Burman songs throughout the day, going through the list of his songs available in the blog and comparing them with the list of songs available in HFGK, among other things.

Today (27 june 2015) is the birth anniversary of R D Burman (27 june 1939-4 january 1994). Today also happens to be a weekend, viz a day when I am theoretically free. So I have resolved to try and post as many R D Burman compositions today as I can. I have a few lyrics and writeup contributions from our contributors and I also expect some more special contribution(s) as the day progresses.

‘Bandhe Haath-1973’ is a movie that I had watched in a ‘touring talkies’ in a ‘village fair’, 10/12 kms away from the colony-place where we were living at that time in 1974-75.

Since then, two things related with this movie have become embedded in my mind- one – the title song of the film ‘dekho ye mere bandhe haath’ sung by Kishore Kumar, and second is the name and face of O.P.Ralhan.

June 6th is Sunil Dutt’s birth anniversary. He was born in 1929, so we celebrate his 86th birthday. His debut film was Railway Platform (1955). The role of the idealist, who wants to change the society, would follow him for most part of the 50s. In 1963 he donned the role of a dacoit Thakur Jarnail Singh, which was quite unusual for the times. In fact, it was sort of an extension of his role in Mother India (1957). Dacoit roles would haunt him for the rest of his career. He did meaningful films, particularly with Chopra brothers in the 60s. His magnum opus Reshma aur Shera (1972) though left him in financial doldrums, which sent him on a film-signing spree throughout the 70s. At first it was to pay back his debts and later for the cancer treatment of his wife. He took leave of his career as a leading man after launching his son in Rocky (1981) with the film Dard Ka Rishta (1982).

With this song the film Dhongee (1976) makes its debut on this blog. I know only this song from this film and remember it from my childhood days, when it used to be played on the radio, on Vividh Bharati to be precise. The YT uploader has erroneously mentioned this movie as a release of 1979.

After celebrating R. D. Burman’s 500th song on the blog with the grand medley of English songs from Bombay to Goa (1972), we are coming to the last song from this movie to be covered on this blog.

The name of the movie suggests that this is a road movie. As usual a road movie needs to have a main character, who undergoes a transformation and realizes his/her past mistakes and comes back to the straight and narrow. The main character of this plot is Mala (Aruna Irani). She is on the run after having witnessed a murder. She boards a bus, which goes from Bombay to Goa.
