I had heard this song “rang le aayenge roop le aayenge” many times during its days in 1970s. This song was quite a popular song of its time, but all this while I was not aware about the movie this song was from. It is only now that I have come to know that the song was from a movie called “Bhanwar” (1976). This by now obscure movie was an Evershine Pictures production. It was produced by Shyam Keswani and Nandu Mirani. Bhappi Sonie was the director. The story of this song was written by Gulshan Nanda who was a very popular Hindi language pulp fiction novelist of those days.

One thing that we can depend upon for with Gulzar, is the most imaginative use of simple words that combine to make unusual arrangements, and still carry a very deep and pleasing meaning.
