I came across a veritable gem today, that I had once heard many many years ago; I had no info about this song, just remembered the tune and some words, that would sometimes just come up in my mind by themselves and I would hum them, always longing to hear this song again. “Jeewan Jyoti” (1953) is a movie that had Shammi Kapoor, Chand Usmani, Shashikala etc in it. Personally I am not much aware of this movie. In fact, I am not much aware of its songs too. Or so I thought. Just a few hours ago, I stumbled upon this song, which I had heard many a times without being aware of its details. This time I realised that this song was from “Jeewan Jyoti” (1953). In fact, I thought that this song, which is fairly well known, was already in this blog. But I was wrong in my assumption, of course.

Over the years I have not just listened to hundreds of songs that I already knew but have discovered several new “old” songs that have absolutely delighted me. Ye kaisi deewaar hai duniyaa

Here is a mourning song from “Batwaaraa” (1961). No one had died. It is the age old relations that have are getting severed though. The two brothers, who lived under the same roof, now want to partition the home as they cannot see eye to eye with each other. So a wall is being erected right in front of the courtyard to partition the house into two.
