64th Birthday of Ranjeeta Kaur – 22.09.2020
———————————————————
I wish life could be just a song for the road just like this song on a motorcycle. A song heard in childhood, mainly on radio. In 1980 we had a T.V. at home, but that was only aired in the evening. The radio could be heard during the day also, but they were on air for specific hours only, be it “vividh bharati” or “All india Radio”, of which urdu service was the one for film songs. All these years the lyrics of the song complete with the first stanza have stayed in the memory. After the advent of youtube, I may have looked up this song too alongwith many other old songs.

It is a well-known fact that both Laxmikant and Pyarelaljistarted their career as players of music instruments in the song recordings. If I am not mistaken, Pyarelalji, was a violinist.

“Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se”(1978) was inspired from Eric Segal’s immortal novel “Love Story”.

Majority of movie watchers including me, who watched “Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se”(1978) did not know about the source of inspiration of the movie. The movie was a bo office hit. People wathing the movie liked it for its story and for its music. My own feeling is that the music of this movie may have played the bigger role in ensuring that the movie was a money spinner for Rajshree Productions, the makers of this movie.

Erich Segal’s immortal novel “Love Story” has inspired quite a few movies. The first such movie was a Hollywood movie of the same name that was released in 1970, a few months after this novel was released on 14 february 1970.

Hindi movies have also joined the bandwagon. “Ankhiyon ke Jharokhon se” (1978) was based on “Love Story”. A Rajshree Productions release, this movie was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and directed by Hiren Nag. Vrajendra Gaur as the writer had adapted this story, Indianising the movie as much as he could.
