“Kotwal Sahab” (1977) is a movie which is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji. This movie was different from the usual Hrishikesh Mukherji movies. Instead of his usual his usual breezy, humerous, sensitive kind of direction that one is used to, Hrishikesh Mukherji has took up a more serious topic in this movie. In this movie, Shatrughan Sinha is a no nonsence honest police officer. His wife Aparna Sen has a dark past and she does not know how to share that past with her husband, because she fears that it may complicate matters. Utpal Dutt, playing a unscrupulous politician who is aware of Aparna Sen’s past is out there to take advantage of her plight.

“Kaanch Aur Heera” (1972) was a B grade movie produced by Sudarshan Chitra and directed by Charandas Shokh. The makers of this movie must have been great believers in winning lottery or stock market riches, seeing that they had staked the future of their movie on names like Pankaj and Shaheen. Yes, they were the lead actors in this movie. Other in the cast were Rajan Haksar, Kamal Kapoor, Manmohan etc.

It is the day of Raakhi festival (Raksha bandhan) today and we saw in one song that a man was lamenting the fact that he did not have a sister of his own. But it is not necessary for a man to have a real sister of his own for the purpose of rakhi. Indian mythology is full of tales of unrelated men being sent rakhi by women and they fougtht to protect the honour of their rakhi sisters. Hindi movies too show girls tie rakhi on the wrists of strangers and they prove to be more loyal that their real brother.

I remember my daughter’s birthday too because her countdown for the next birthday is an ongoing process. There are occasions when I have forgotten the birthday of my wife ( Disclaimer- Do not try it at home with your wife). In this blog, the only important days I remember are the obvious ones viz important natioanal holidays or important Indian festivals. On those days, I post songs relevant to those occasions.
