Missing Films of 1960s – 70
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Almost like a déjà-vu happening today.
The year is 1968, one more than the previous episode – we had the film ‘Jungle Ki Hoor’ from `1967 yesterday. Today, the film is ‘Lutera Aur Jaadugar’. The word ‘Jaam’ appears in the song title. And the word ‘tauba-aashiqan’ appears in the body of the song. Other similarities – well they go without saying. A perfect gem of a song from an unknown film, composed by an equally obscure and unfamiliar music director – Suresh Kumar.

Today, March 8th is the 97th birth anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi, one of my favourite poet-lyricists. Before him, there were other eminent Urdu poets such as Arzoo Lucknowi, Safdar Aah Sitapuri, Behzad Lucknowi, Josh Malihabadi etc who had been associated with the Hindi film industry sometime or the other. But it was Sahir Ludhianvi who clicked with the Hindi film industry as a poet and raised the status of the lyricists. Eventually, he created such a status for himself in the Hindi film industry that some of the established producers/directors first took him on board before finalising the music directors for their films.

Missing Films of 1960s – 59
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
So, on the 3501st day on this blog, I introduce to you the debut film for today.
The film is ‘Sardaar’ from 1967. This year continues to be very fertile, and still another four, and maybe five more films from this year are next in line.
The production banner is M.U.N. films Bombay, and the film is directed by Babubhai Mistry. The film is categorized as a costume drama, with the cast of actors listed as Dara Singh, Sheikh Mukhtar, Ajit, Nishi, Helen, Jayant, Chandrashekhar, Tiwari, Maruti, Arvind Pandya, and Jeevankala. Now this is a very impressive ensemble – we have Sheikh Mukhtar, and Dara Singh, and Ajit, and Chandrashekhar, and Nishi, and Helen, and Jayant, and Tiwari – wow.

First of all, I have to express my gratitude to this blog once again, it is only because of this blog that am able to share this post here. Though I have already shared many posts earlier, but today the personality I am writing about is of such a great stature that it is my fortune and blessings of this blog that I am able to do this.
Today we remember Ramchandra Narayandutt Dwivedi whom we fondly admire and respect as ‘Kavi Pradeep’ or ‘Rashtra Kavi Pradeep’ on the anniversary of his birth. He was born on 6th February,1915 and passed away on 11th December,1998 leaving behind a great legacy or even I can say a ‘heritage’ – a national heritage of his immortal poems and his ‘voice’.
