“Mili” (1975) was a copy of “Anand” (1971) which in turn was a copy of a Japanese award winning movie that Hrishikesh Mukherji had seen in a film festival sometime in late 1960s. I do not now remember the name of this movie but I had read about it in magazines of 1970s. I request other readers to tell me the name of this movie which inspired these movies.

Ek Raat (1967) is a B/C grade film produced under the banner of East and West Movietone, Bombay, and is directed by Rajnath. The music for this film is composed by Usha Khanna. The lyrics for this film are written by three poets viz., Anjaan, Yogesh, and Jalaal Malihabaadi. The star cast is made up of Sheikh Mukhtar, Ravi Kumar, Simi, Shyama, Madan Puri, David, Helen, Lakshmichhaaya, Samson, Haroon, Bhagwan Sinha, Nazir Kashmiri, CL Shah, Bihari, Vasanti. This film was the debut vehicle for actor Ravi Kumar. The name does not sound familiar from other films, and I would request our knowledgeable readers to add more information about this actor.

“Baaton Baaton Mein” (1979) is a movie that was not about superhuman characters, but about average day to day characters like you and me. And the depiction of their hopes, aspirations, joys, sorrows and other feelings of the characters were so natural and one could empathise with them. And when these feelings are expressed in the form of songs which are written with heart, composed with sensitivity and sung with feeling, that such songs are bound to be remembered and recalled.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee had watched a Japanese movie, which depicts a man who has only a few days to live but instead of being melancholic, he lives his life cheerfully and spreads happiness all around him. Hrishikesh Mukherjee liked that movie so much that he adpated the movie into Hindi and created “Anand” (1970). Not content with that, he re adapted the same adaptation to change the gender of the main character and he thus came up with “Mili” (1975). Both these movies were critically well acclaimed and well received by the ordinary movie watchers as well.

Here is one more gem of a song that comes from a grade B/C film. Ek Raat is a 1967 film produced under the banner of East&West Movies, directed by Rajnath. A suspense action drama, in which the star cast includes Sheikh Mukhtar, Simi, Madan Puri, Shyama, David, Laxmi Chhaayaa, Samson etc. The lyrics of this film come from the pen of Yogesh Gaud and the music is by Usha Khanna.
