Greetings to all friends and readers for the most auspicious celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi.  Today is the day of birth of Ganesh ji.  It the fourth day of the waxing cycle of the moon, in the month of Bhadrapad, also known as ‘bhaadon’. Today starts the eleven days of special worship of Ganesh ji. Most households would have brought into their homes, the colorful Ganesh icons. Thus starts the visit, of this elephant headed Dev, to the households of the believers and the faithful. And there He shall stay anywhere from one day to eleven days, as per plans for specific household.

Ganesh ji is the second illustrious son of Lord Shiv and Maa Parvati. The account of the birth of Ganesh, and how He acquired the head of an elephant, is quite well known. Also well known is that He is worshipped as the remover of obstacles and barriers. If certain desired things are not happening or the circumstances are not moving in the desired direction, the customary call is to worship and make offerings to Ganesh ji, in order to do away with any displeasure that He may be carrying. People will pray to Him, and make offerings to Him, in order to please Him. Once He is pleased, then it is said that He will be instrumental in purging any ill omens and remove any other reasons that may be standing in the way of the successful realization of one’s desires and aspirations.

One of the names attributed to him is ‘Vighna Harta’ – ‘विघ्न हरता’, the remover of obstacles and hindrances. And so, it is customary that people will worship Him and pray to Him, whenever they embark on a new activity, or are starting a new project, a new journey. With this belief, the prayers to Ganesh ji will precede any activity, even the worship of and offering of prayers to any other God or Goddess. He is the receiver of the ‘Pratham Pranaam’ – ‘प्रथम प्रणाम’, the first offering and the first respects, in each and every thing.

This is a boon and a blessing that He received from his parents, Lord Shiv and Maa Parvati. It is said that once there was a trial as to who amongst the two sons of Lord Shiv and Maa Parvati – Kaartikeya and Ganesh, can circumnavigate and measure the entire universe faster. As the trial started, Kaartikeya set off with great speed, riding on the peacock, his designated vehicle. And Ganesh ji, He simply circumambulated once, His parents sitting on Mount Kailash, and stated that for Him, His parents are the entire universe, and so it is sufficient for Him to go around them, for the purpose of this trial. This pleased Lord Shiv and Maa Parvati so much that together they blessed him with the boon, that henceforth, all beings would pray to Ganesh ji first, before even offering prayers to any other God or Goddess. This blessing thus created this auspiciousness for Ganesh ji. First praying to him and making offerings unto him, in any circumstance or event is thus the enabler to create auspiciousness, and to ensure success. In other words, the act of worshipping Ganesh ji first, helps to remove barriers and to bring success and fulfillment.

Today’s song of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations is from the 1981 film ‘Saahas’. The lyrics and the complete details of this song have been sent by our dear Prakash ji. The lyrics are written by Anjaan and the music composition is by Bhappi Lahiri. The singing voices are of Bhappi Lahiri, Anwar and a chorus of singers. On screen, the song is performed by Bhagwan Dada, Mithun Chakravarty, Jagdeep, and Rati Agnihotri.

Let us celebrate the appearance of the remover of obstacles – Jai Ganesh Deva.

Thank u for this post Prakashchandraji and Sudhirji. But abhi toh visarjan ke liye 10 days baaki hai! And even small household Ganesha will leave only tomorrow or after 4 more days. So not yet time to bid good bye to our favorite god

Dear Peevesie’s Mom ji

Yes, this post is to mark the arrival of Ganesh ji for the eleven days festival. That is the tone of the Ganesh Chaturthi day. I have not mentioned anything about his departure.

The song itself does have that scenario; but then all such songs are of this tone only. I wonder if there is a song of Ganesh ‘sthaapna’.

Hullo Sudhirji

Deva ho deva Ganpati deva tumse badhkar kaun

this is a Ganesh Sthapana song. then the song posted last year https://atulsongaday.me/2015/09/17/deva-shree-ganesha-deva-shree-ganesha was also a sthapana song. these are confirmed songs of sthapana.
i had sent one or two such songs in 2014 to Atulji but they are yet to be posted. i also have to check the list of songs posted on the blog to see which other visarjan song has been posted. i think song from “Dard Ka RIshta” is already there. i just checked song from” Dard Ka Rishta” is already there.
and finally from your reply i get the feeling that i have offended you with my comment. i apologize. i am very very sorry.

https://atulsongaday.me/2012/09/19/mere-man-mandir-mein-tum-bhagwaan-rahe/ from “Dard Ka Rishta” this is a visarjan ka song
but the song from “Agneepath” that we posted last year https://atulsongaday.me/2015/09/17/deva-shree-ganesha-deva-shree-ganesha/ and the all time favourite https://atulsongaday.me/2011/09/01/deva-ho-deva-ganpati-deva-tumse-badhkar-kaun/ are sthapana songs.
i had sent one other song to Atul in 2014 which is a song for visarajan day but it is yet to be posted.
anyway i think i have offended you by my comment (deduction from you reply) i am very very sorry.
i cannot afford to upset you

Dear Peevesie’s Mom ji,

Ye kya likh diya aap ne?

I think it is my turn to apologize in case the tone of my response to your comment sounds that I am upset. I am not at all upset. There is nothing such in this conversation. I am just expressing my lack of awareness of latter day songs, and I am glad for you to provide additional information with your comments.

Please, please do not think anything of this. And apologies once again in case my response sounded brusque. It is inadvertent and unintended.

Sudhir ji,

The correct slogan ( and Title of the song) should be..

GANAPATI BAPPA MORYA
PUDHACHYA VARSHI LAVKAR YAA

If you can make corrections, the post will be perfect.

Thanks.
