Today’s song is a Parody song from the film Refugee aka Sharanarthi-1948. The film was produced by Harishchandra Rao Kadam for his own banner Harishchandra Pictures, Bombay.
This film was a “First time” for 3 persons.
First was the producer and lead actor of the film- Harishchandra Rao Kadam himself. He was basically a “C” grade action and stunt film producer. This was his first ‘Social film, which was also his last social film, as he then returned to his comfort zone of stunt films.
Second was the MD of the film Ajit Merchant. This was his first film as an Independent Music Director. So far he was an assistant to Ashok Ghosh and then Anil Biswas. The third was the singer Sulochana Kadam. She acted in this film for the first time. Later she did one more film.

Continuing the series on actresses whose names start with A and who have lip-synched to Asha Bhosle’s songs, we come today to Aarti Gupta. I think she was more famous for her modelling career in the 1980s than for her acting career, although she was quite well known in the horror genre, particularly for her appearances in the Ramsay Brothers’ Samri series.
The Samri series began with Purana Mandir (1984). The character Samri became such a hit with horror fans that he was revived, even though he had been eliminated in the climax of the original film. I am not a big fan of the horror genre, particularly the bloodthirsty variety that tends to dominate the scene.

#The Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
YEAR 1983-2
The song under discussion is from the movie ‘Painter Babu-1983’. It was a special movie for teenagers of those days like us.
Board examination for Xth were upon us and obviously that was uppermost in our minds. At the same time, we were not immune to the other topics of our interest, viz cricket, Hindi movies, and listening to Hindi movie songs on radio.
‘Painter Babu’ was being promoted on radio just as we were preparing for our board exams (of class Xth). Songs of this movie, that were frequently played on radio was a hot topic of discussion in my friend circle. The radio promotion of this movie had its intended effect on us and we became curious about this movie and its debutant lead pair. The fact this movie was produced by Manoj Kumar was in any case an added attraction. AThe fact that Manoj Kumar’s brother was making his debut (with three others also makingtheir debuts), had our friend’s circle excited about this movie. The music of this movie was composed by music duo Uttam Singh- Jagdish Khanna. These names were new for me. We finally got to watch this movie during tsummer vacations after our board examination was over.

‘Jail Yaatra’ (1981) was produced by Vijay Maria and Praveen Bali and was directed by Bhappi Sonie. The cast included Ashok Kumar, Vinod Khanna, Reena Roy, Amjad Khan, Anwar Hussain, Ashoo, Heena Kausar, Jyoti Bakshi, Jaishree T, Anjana Mumtaz, Dhumal, Vandana Shashtri, Rajan Kapoor, Beena, Abhimanyu Sharma, Brahm Bhardwaj, Katy Mirza, Manhar Desai, Keshav Rana, Mushtaq Merchant, Shivraj etc. Nirupa Roy and Jagdeep made their friendly appearances. The film went to floor sometime in 1975 but got delayed in its completion mainly due to Vinod Khanna’s frequent visits to Rajnish Ashram. Incidentally, during 1981-86, Vinod Khanna had taken sabbatical from the film industry.
