Actually, it would not be wrong to say that some members like me are madly in love with the railways and postal departments in our country. And why not, both the railways and postal departments have their presence all over the country and these services also play major roles in nation building and national integration. I have stumbled upon some very melodious and wonderful songs in recent weeks and months. I am saving all the links for various series in various folders, but don’t seem to get around to writing the posts. But my speed has reduced since I started using my new HP laptop, which is a gaming one. I had to go for this as I wanted 1 TB data with SSD, whatever that means. I am told that SSD is for higher speed. This was the only model available, without touch screen. So the games and other binge watching tendencies are hampering my blog output.

Today’s song is from a film of the first decade of the talkie era – Adhoori kahani-1939.
In the first decade of the Talkie era, Calcutta’s New Theatres was far ahead of other film studios of India in presenting musical and successful films. However, when its successful film Devdas-1935 came, it, possibly, unintentionally stressed on the painful dark emotions of Human Behaviour. It also, almost, glorified a failed Love, alcoholism and death of the Hero. I understand that the film was based on a famous novel by Sharat chandra Chatterjee. New Theatres being the leader in the industry, other filmmakers followed suit and there was a spate of films depicting Sadism, Pessimism, Tragedy, Perversion, Psychoti Behavious and similar not so good Human Emotions in their films.

Hullo Atuldom
I must admit at the outset that I have very limited understanding of some words that appear in today’s song. I know it is not possible to call the lyricist and ask for meanings. I know for sure that there are followers to this blog who will explain what “Jaanejaan” and “Janejana” actually mean. All along I have been thinking that both mean “beloved”, am I right? I hope it is not too late to learn, considering these words have been used in umpteen songs of Bollywood, since god knows when!!!

Today’s song is from the film Iqrar-42. This was just one of the many films- coming out of Ranjit’s factory. It was like their emphasis was on churning out films in quantity. They were not much worried about the quality of the films, it would seem to the observer. As such the number of hit and successful films coming out of Ranjit was certainly not very high, unlike New Theatres, Bombay Talkies or Prabhat.
