Today’s song is from a film called Chaar Paise-55. This is a funny song and dance video of Kishore Kumar. Funnier was the fact that though this film was passed by the Censors on 12-12-1955, the film was never released in theatres, but its DVD and CDs are available in the market and also the film itself is available on You Tube. One can enjoy the songs and acting of Kishore Kumar of the 50s, in this film. Almost all songs are also available on You Tube.

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 22
———————————————————

Music and songs are integral parts of films made in the Indian sub-continent. Even before talkies came into being, musicians used to play musical instruments sitting close to the screen. Sometime recorded songs were played as film’s images got projected on the screen in the silent film era. The main reason as to why music and songs contents in films of Indian sub-continent are comparatively high as compared with those of films of other countries is that we are musically inclined people in our day to day life. Joy, sorrow, romance, seasons, activities, festivals etc are occasions for music and songs for us. Our folk music and songs are testimony to the importance of music in our life.

I am sure Prime Minister Modi ji will pat me on the back for bringing this song to limelight today. However, rest assured, that was not my aim. I just wanted to discuss a song from the film Mr. Sampat-1952. The song’s first lines are ‘Hurra Hurra, achhe din aa rahen hain’. This is merely a coincidence !

In the year 2014 I had done a series called “Chaandni Raaten”. The series remained sort of incomplete, and now it is too far back to restart it. As is my practice, I give a list of all songs featuring in a particular series in the last song post, even that remained to be done. I had planned to post a few more songs, which were suggested and were suitable to the theme. But that was not to be. So I am posting here one of those songs as a closure. This song was found for me by one of the regular visitors to the blog ‘ blufire ji’, as I was looking for a Talat Mehmood song for the series.

Today (18 march 1938) is the 79th birth anniversary of Shashi Kapoor. It seems like yesterday when Shashi Kapoor was a leading star of the Hindi movies when I was a school boy in 1970s. when I checked up, I found that four decades have passed since. 🙂
