“Moorti” (1945) was a movie produced by Ranjit Movietone. It was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The movie had Motilal, Khursheed, Padma Banerjee, Yashwant Dube, Kamal Jamindar, Kaneez, Tara Bai etc. in it. Only the first two names in the cast are somewhat familiar. I have little idea about the other actors in the list.

“Daak Bangla” (1947) is a National Pictures production. It was directed by M Sadiq. This movie had Wasti, Suraiyya, Kamal Kapoor, Gope, M Ismail etc in it.

“Teasing” songs where the hero teases the heroine while singing a roadside Romeo genre of song is not quite my cup of tea, especially when the hero is someone like Rajendra Kumar. But I am prepared to condone such teasing when the hero is someone like Shammi Kapoor or Kishore Kumar. Who said that I am impartial in my likings of actors. 😀 Yes,I am objective and impartial in my likings only when it comes to singers, not actors. 🙂

“Zeenat” (1945) is a movie that is directed by Shaukat Hussain Rizvi. This movie had Noorjahaan, Zohrabai Ambalewaali, Cuckoo, Shashikala (then a child), Baby Khursheed (later known as Shyama) etc. In fact, this movie seems to be a movie with mainly female actors . : D All the eight songs of this movie have been sung only by female singers, and that includes an all female qawwaali (Aahen na bharin shiqwe na kiye ).

“Zameendaar” (1942) is a movie that had Shanta Apte, Manorama, Ghulam Mohammad,S D Narang,M Esmail etc in it. This movie, though forgotten along with its music has some wonderful songs in it.

While discussing songs, I often like to discuss songs that are rare/ unusual/unexpected in some ways. For example, songs sung by people normally not known for their singing, songs composed by people who are normally known for some other activity, lyricist/music director/singer figuring in the picturisation of the song etc.

“Moti Mahal” (1952) is one of those B grade movies that have been forgotten with time. this movie had Ajit, Suraiyya, Jeewan, Ratan Kumar, Satish, Veera, Roopmala etc in it.

Kaaghaz ki thhi wo naao

I just came across this rare song from an obscure movie. The movie is called “Zabaan” (1943) and it had actors like Dixit, Mubarak, Ishwarlal, Kaushalya etc in it. None of these names rings any bell as far as I am concerned.
