Very little is known about music director Ram Laxman. Initially there were two of them, viz Ram Kadam and Vijay Patil who composed music as Ram Laxman. Ram Kadam died in 1976. But Vijay Patil continued to compose music as Ram Laxman. In fact, most well known movies with music by Ram Laxman came after 1976 when it was Vijay Patil alone composing music as Ram Laxman. Movies like “Maine Pyaar Kiya” (1989) and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”(1994) are the compositions of Ram Laxman.

“Dooriyaan” (1979) was a Climb Pictures production. It was directed by Bhimsen. The movie had Uttam Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Priyadarshini, Shriram Lagoo, Baby Geeta, Sudha Chopra, Sulbha Deshpande, Arvind Deshpande, Lalita Kohli, Nitin Sethi, Dutta Bhatt, Achyut Poddar, Kiran Seth etc in it.

Today, the 18th of August, is the 76th birthday of Gulzar saab.

And, as I type 76th, I can’t help feeling that 1936 must have been a very special year. If I were selling wine and comparing Hindi film personalities with wine, I think I’d say 1936 could be right up there for best year for vintage wine of the 20th century. 🙂

R D Burman in 1970s was mostly known for composing songs that dazzled the senses. But he could also compose songs that touched the heart strings of the listeners. He tended to create the later kind of songs when he tied up with Gulzar as a lyricist. That way R D Burman was somewhat similar to Kishore Kumar who was known to be a happy go lucky character most of the time but when he produced movies, then most of his movies (with the exception of “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi”) were serious movies.

I have mentioned it in the past that Hindi movies and Hindi songs tend to deal with topics that are of interest and relevance to Indian public. Having said that, one finds that there are very few songs on some topics of everyone’s interest. For example, there are very few songs, if any, that deal with the feelings of Indians as voters. 🙂

“Dooriyaan” (1979) is a recent movie by the standards of this blog. The era of nerve jangling and mind numbing disco had begun by then, but on the other hand, soothing ghazals were making a brief return in a few movies, including this one. So the songs of this movie belong to this blog.

“Kinaara”(1977) is a movie which was produced by Pranlal Mehta and directed by Gulzar. Gulzar in fact also wrote the script of this movie as well as the lyrics of its songs. “Kinaara” (1977) was one of the few movies that was well recieved by the masses as well as the media. This movie had Jeetendra, Hema Malini, Dharmendra, Shrreram Laagoo, Dina Pathak etc in this movie.

“Ham Se Badhkar Kaun” (1981) was a run of the mill kind of a movie that are produced every year and which are then soon forgotten after a few weeks.

As far as I was concerned, I actually forgot all about this movie soon after I watched it.

When I post songs in this blog, the easiest part is to find the song to post. I mostly stumble upon songs on youtube or dailymotion and decide to post the song. Sometimes, while posting songs based on farmaishes, I find that locating songs become the most difficult part, in case the song is an obscure song.
