“Suhaana Safar” (1970) is an obscure movie despite being a “recent” movie by the standards of this blog :). The movie was produced by R C Kumar and directed by Vijay. Its starcast had Shashi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, David Abraham, Lalita Pawar, K. N. Singh, Om Prakash, Tiwari, Bhagwan, Sunder, Manmohan Krishna, Leela Misra, Randhir, Mukri, Keshto Mukherjee etc in it. Now we know why the movie was obscure despite being a recent movie :).

“Hare Kaanch Ki Choodiyaan” (1967) was a movie which was produced by Kishore Sahu to launch his daughter Naina Sahu. This movie had Naina Sahu acting opposite Biswajeet.

These are are days of consumerism where people have mind boggling variety of materials to choose from. It is difficult to imagine today that Indian shops till 1970s wore spartan looks and they hardly had anything to offer. People got “phoren” goods from abroad and flaunted them proudly. And smuggling (bringing items without paying the exorbitant taxes) was a flourishing business.

Obscure movies can sometimes (read often) throw up some pleasant surprises in the form of songs that one did not know existed ! I keep discovering many forgotten gems almost on a daily basis.

Most of the songs that I post in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. After 1980s, I more or less lost track of Bollywood movies and its music. And that more or less coincided with deterioration in the quality of Bollywood songs as well.

With this song, I introduce a new tag viz “choodi” song. The word “choodi” dominates this song. In this song, Dev Anand and Zaahida are seen seated behind a car, with our ageless Dev Saab singing this song “choodi nahin mera dil hai dekho toote naa”.

This is one of the iconic songs of the days when I was growing up as a young impressionable kid. This song was everywhere in 1970, blaring out from loudspeakers as well as radios.
As with most popular songs of those days, this song had appealed to all just on the merit of the audio. People like me had no idea which movie this song was from and how it was picturised. Laxmikant Pyarelal’s music and Anand Bakshi’s lyrics, along with Lata’s voice were all we needed to enjoy this song.
