“Ye Kis Ki Yaad Aa Gayee, Bahaar Ban Ke Chhaa Gayee” – a lovely rendition by Suraiyya, composed by Hansraj Behl, and the verses created by Anjum Jaipuri. This, and many more such wonderful ghazals and geets have come from the pen of this talented poet, who was equally at home with the adbi shaayari in chaste Urdu, and the songs that he wrote in unsullied Hindi for the many religious and historical films that he wrote for.

The 1960s can be considered as the decade of the duos. Three very prominent music director duos led the way from the front in the field of Hindi film music. I am sure all readers will immediately identify them as S-J, L-P, and K-A (Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyaarelal, and Kalyan ji Anand ji). Stories are rumored on how at times manipulations happened to create a
monopoly. But it can also not be discounted that these duos created some of the finest film songs of their times.

“Challenge” (1964) is a movie as obscure as any. This movie was a Movie Centre Production. It was directed by B J Patel. It is not clear who played the lead role in this movie. The sketchy information available about this movie suggest that Ranjan, Chitra, Maruti, Polson, Tiwari, etc figured in this movie.

I became aware of “Puraskaar” (1970) after Memsaab reviewed this movie in her blog. It turns out that the movie is a treasure of great songs. I wonder how I was not aware of this movie when it was released in 1970s, seeing that this movie had music by R D Burman and I, like most music lovers was a big fan of R D Burman’s music.
