Wow, what a song ! I have listened to this song many a times even though I did not have an inkling about which movie this song was from, or even who the singers were. I thought that Mukesh and Lata were the singers. But I find now that the female voice is Suman Kalyanpur. I think Suman Kalyanpur has sung similar number of songs as Mukesh and she had a Mukesh like midas touch too. A large number of her songs have gone on to become very popular, just like how it was with Mukesh.

While researching Shammi Kapoor’s songs, I was interested to find out who, apart from Rafi, had given playback singing for Shammi Kapoor. I came across a few songs sung by Manna Dey and Mukesh. May be I may find songs sung by a few more male playback singers.

This song from “Baat ek raat ki” (1962) is regarded as a Hemant Kumar classic. This song is picturised on Dev Anand and Waheeda Rahman. Technically this song should be called a duet because Suman Kalyanpur’s voice is also there, singing for Waheeda Rahman, but she sings hardly one line or two.
