The term ‘cancelled’ is not a difficult word to decipher and understand – something incorrect, or outdated, or not required. It simply gets ‘cancelled’ – like a train or a plane reservation, a defective product coming off from the assembly line, or even an appointment that is not required, or cannot be met.  Besides this general usage and its association with sundry and trivial experiences in life, I have come across this term in two other fields, where the meaning and intent of usage turned out to be very specific, and took some time to understand and assimilate it.

A few days back, when Atul ji was in Delhi, we were together with our local group for an afternoon get together on the second day of his stay here. Atul ji has written about it in his report out with the song “Tu Jo Dil Le Ke Mere Peechhe Peechhe Aayega”.  Javed Bhai, one of our group regulars started the topic about how many Hindi film songs are there, and whether we have already got most of them on the blog.  To which Atul ji replied that as per Geet Kosh, we have approximately 44,000 songs listed for the first five decades of our film industry, i.e. from 1931 to 1980.  Out of these, we a little over 11,000 songs on the blog so far, which works out to be 25% completion only.  We have come here after a journey of about seven years.  Going by this background, we surely are going to be pretty busy for many more years to come, just to get all the available songs till 1980, on to the blog.

Genius of Jaidev – 32
———————————

Songs of Jaidev from 1967 ‘Hamaare Gham Se Mat Khelo’ are covered as far as I am concerned. The films after that are mostly such that they were not successful at the box-office and hence their songs are mostly unheard and un-available. Thanks to some collectors (with good taste) who are there and the request to them for odd songs are graciously fulfilled.

I first became aware of this song through Abhi To Main Jawaan Hoon series on RMIM. Snehal Oza’s description was so vivid that it painted a picture of the song in my mind. The quest for it began in the late 90’s.
