Here is a another duet, which is rare in the sense few people might have heard it. It is from a film called “Fariyaad” (1964). A few songs from this film are posted in the blog. This music of this film is composed by Snehal Bhatkar, and this song is written by Kedar Sharma. As I see in the list of songs moviewise three songs are already posted. So this is the fourth song to be posted. Another duet “Apne huzoor mujhe kya se kya banaa diyaa” was posted a few days ago (Post by Sadanand Kamathji).

Recently,I came across an audio clip of a film FOR LADIES ONLY (1951). This film was also known by the name ‘TITLI’. I had never heard of this film. A search in the Indian Film Trade website revealed that the film was produced under the banner of Jaimini Dewan Productions ( Jaimini was the brother of Karan Dewan) and directed by Vedi. The cast included Satish, Roopa Verman, Kuldeep Kaur, Sadhana Bose, Ramnath. As per the same website, there were three lyricists for the film – Sahrai, Kaif and Sahir Ludhianvi. Another website gives the names of six lyricist – Sharma, Vashisht,Prakash, Kaif, Sahrai and Sohanlal Sahir ( and not Sahir Ludhianvi). Vinod (Eric Robert) was the music director for the film.

“Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957) is the movie where Shammi Kapoor finally got transformed from a struggling underconfident actor to a successful confident star. During my school days, some Hindi films with English titles such as ’12’o Clock’, ‘Black Cat’, ‘Marine Drive’, ‘Gateway of India’, ‘Tower House’ were released between late 50s and early 60s. I used to wonder as to why Hindi films should have English titles. Perhaps, it was one of the ploys of the production houses to create some curiosity about these films among the prospective audience and lure them to theatres. I was also curious about these films but those days we would be permitted to see only a couple of films during summer and Diwali vacations and that too only one or two select films. I had no occasion to see these movies when they were released and I have no idea about their fate on the box office. Probably these films did not run for long time.

Though I have not watched “Love In Shimla” (1960) but I have gained enough information about the movie by watching the picturisation of various songs of the movie and by going through the comments of readers who have clearly watched the movie. 🙂

The days of comedians having a special role with well defined characters and a pivotal role in the main story of the film or parallel story were well and truly over by early 70’s. This is especially true about actors like Mehmood and Johnny Walker. They had a meaty role as well a heroine to sing songs with. One or two songs were a must for them in every film they starred. I really think there should a separate tag of category for this extinct species of comic actor. A tag for “Mehmood song” and “Johnny walker song” will not look out of place in a blog like this.

My last few posts have been about songs of the 1970s. As I’ve explained before, this is only because I find it easier to talk about that decade. Some golden-era film and music lovers may even like to call it the decadent decade 😉 – and they would not be entirely wrong, in my opinion.

Usually when we go on a road trip and if I am driving, my husband and kids knows which songs I am going to listen, I mean of which artist. So, when I ask them to play my ipod, without any inquiry, they would start playlist of Rafi. Second playlist consists of all romantic songs, another playlist is about blue mood songs, the next one is prayer/bhajans/gospel which I play in the morning. Last but not least is the playlist of songs which I can listen to any time/part of the day. I have named it as all time favorite.
