Nowadays it is happening with me regularly that whenever I come across a new song (newer to me) I check for its movie name, and when I became aware of the name of the movie I check it on the blog. I am under the impression that this movie surely is on the blog. But, when I found that the movie is not yet available on the blog, I do not believe it and keep checking many times in various lists  . Today 19th of August 2022 is the third ‘Remembrance anniversary’ of the legendary music director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab, whom we fondly know as Khayyam Saab.

He was born on 18th February 1927 in a village Rahon in the District of Jalandhar – Punjab.

From Jalandhar he came to Delhi and from Delhi to Lahore to Mumbai again back to Lahore and finally to Mumbai to start his career in Hindi Films in 1948. He started his musical career as a Singer first, singing a duet in the movie ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (1947) with Zohrabai Ambalewali. Rafi Sb.

So much written about him. So much said. The words have ended. But the emotions continue to flow. So much more remains unsaid. So much more still waits. But the articulation struggles to create new epithets, define new qualifiers that may go beyond, and say a little more about this Divine Voice, about this persona so aptly described as God’s Own.

And yet, some more, little more. As it is, there are still many more songs in his voice that have to be brought on board here on our blog. I bring today a short ghazal of three couplets, that is indeed an abbreviated version. The poet who wrote these lines is Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor. As a character in history – the last Emperor of the glorious Mughal dynasty, he appears in some films. One of them is ‘Mirza Ghalib’ (1954).

Today’s song is from an obscure film called Aisa Kyun-1947.

The film was made by Shri Raj Pictures, Calcutta. It was directed by A K Chatterjee and the music was by Anupam Ghatak. The cast of the film was Iftikhar, Radharani, Urmila, Pinky, Faiz, Tandon etc. Most people are not aware of the fact that besides New Theatres studio in Calcutta, there were many other film making studios in Calcutta. Hindi films were also made in Burma at that time by the indo-Burma productions.

Today’s song is from the film Kismatwala-1944.

There was another film with the same Title in 1986. Additionally, there came a film ‘Kismatwali’ in 1947. Thank God, filmmakers did not think of Kismat Wale ka Beta or Beti or Son of Kismat Wali or some other relatives ! The title Kismat was used for films 6 times-in 1943, 56, 68, 80, 95 and 2004. Titles having the word kismat were there in 12 movies from 1935 to 2012. Considering all Kismat titles, every 4 years there was a film having the word Kismat in its title !
