Today’s song is from film ‘Jeena Seekho’ (1946). The film was made by Prabhakar Pictures, Bombay, which belonged to Bhalji Pendharkar, the elder brother of Baburaao Pendharkar – the hero of this film. Pendharkar brothers were quite big names in Maharashtra for film making. In fact, the whole clan of Pendharkar was connected with other famous people from film line, like Master Vinayak and V.Shantaram. Let us see how.

Today’s song is from an obscure film – ‘Jeb Katra’ aka ‘Pick Pocket’ aka ‘Girahkat’. The film may be obscure, but the song is extremely melodious and it is a pleasure to listen to such a song. I have liked it very much. The film was produced by actress-singer Brijmala’s home production Brij Prakash Productions. Looking at the cast of film and its director, it seems to be a stunt film. It was advertised as a Social Stunt film – whatever that means. To me it was like saying ‘a religious murder mystery film’ !

There will hardly be a person who has not seen film Mughal E Azam or heard about it. The film was famous and the man who made it – K.Asif – became known to all because of this film. However, K.Asif was not a prolific film maker. In reality, K.Asif (14-6-1922 to 9-3-1971) directed only two and half films. His first film was Phool-45, second was Mughal E Azam-60 and his last attempt was the unfinished film Love and God ( aka Kaiz and Laila)-1986. This film was released as an unfinished film by his kins on 27-5-1986, 15 years after K.Asif died. Asif had produced a film, ‘Hulchul-51’, but he did not direct it.

Today’s song is from a less known film – ‘Zindagi ke Mele’ (1956). The reason for selecting this song is that it is a duet of Shamshad and Rafi and is composed by my favourite composer Chitragupt – The King of Melody. For this film, his assistant was Dilip Dholakiya.

Today’s song is from film ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ (1955).
In one of his earliest posts, Atul ji had said that the Indian people like to talk about 3 things – politics, films and cricket. How true it was. . . till Whatsapp and Facebook became an obsession for most people in India. Now you see different, sometimes even strange topics being discussed with taste. Additionally, there are wise people to give you free doses of a variety of knowledge. In all this crowd, sometimes one finds even a few intelligent posts too !

Today’s song is from the film Aabshaar aka Waterfall-1953.
To me, songs from the fifty’s decade work like a breeze of fresh air or a cup of hot filter coffee. Discussing songs from the 30s and the 40s continuously gives me a feeling of being a very old man which, actually, I am ! But then, being so and feeling so, are two different things. Toying with a song from the 50s takes me back to my college days. If the song is of Kishore, Sugar gets added to the Coffee further.

Today’s song is not only unique and rare, but it is also one of the few real early songs of the Talkie Films. It is from film Vikram Charitra aka Rajkumar Thaksen – 1933. Thanks to Mr. Shalin Bhatt, who has uploaded this rare Gem, sung by Gauhar Karnataki.
