It has been pointed out by my readers that the song “Ramaiyya vasta vaiyya” from “Shree 420” (1955) is missing from the blog. Here Meena Kumari, the nusre has a one sided crush on Raj Kumar, the doctor. This movie and this theme must have appealed to the movie makers, because a few more movies like this followed in its wake.

How many of us have heard of this movie called “Jhoola” ? I had not, and I guessed that a movie by this name must be from early 1950s, since this title rhymed with titles of those days, viz “Mela”, “Jhamelaa” etc.
