“Bhumika”(1977) was a Blaze Film Enterprises Production. It was produced by Lalit M Bijlani and Freni Variava and directed by Shyam Benegal. The movie was based on “Sangte Aikaa”, a Marathi language book of memoirs written by Hansa Wadkar who led a flamboyant and unconventional life in the era as early as 1940s and who at that time focussed on an individual’s search for identity and self-fulfillment. The movie had Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, Anant Naag, Amol Palekar, Amarish Puri, Kiran Vairale, Sulbha Deshpande, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Baby Ruksana, B.V.Karanth, Dina Pathak, Kusuma Deshpande, Rekha Sabnis, Baby Bitto, Mohan Aghashe, Savita Bajaj, Sunila Pradhan, H.Lani, Master Abhitab, G.M.Durrani, Om Puri, Abishek, Mathew, Sudarshan Dhir, Benjamin Gilani, Vijay Padukone, Santosh Shah, Swadesh Pal etc in it.

The nine day festival of Navratri began yesterday (16 october) and it will run till 24 october. This festival is celebrated in different parts of the country in different ways. The eastern part of the country celebrates it as Durga Puja while it is called Navratri in the western parts of the country. I have noticed that the celebrations at various places in the country are taking leaves out of the celebration books of other regions. For example, I find it interesting that Garba, Dandia etc, which are mainly Gujarati forms of celebration are being celebrated in other parts of the country too. And the organisers their attract visitors by roping in small time TV and movie actors who supposedly teach them these dance forms.
