Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No. 19

This date ten years ago (viz 31 March 2011) was a thursday and a working day. On looking back at the posts in the blog, I notice that four songs from four different movies were covered on that day. It was slow going by the standards of the blog those days. The first post of the day appeared at 10:58 AM and the fourth and final post at 1:12 PM. So it appears that this day ten years ago was a day when I could not devote much time for blogging. My guess is that I was journeying on this day in the morning and I arrived at Nagpur (my base) in the morning at around 10 AM and that is when I started blogging for the day.

This series was basically inspired by an article on the blog ‘Pancham and Only Pancham’ – and the title of the article is ‘Tribute to Rafi Sahab on 28th Death Anniversary‘, published on Rafi Sb’s twenty-eighth ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ on 31.07.2008. “The Right And the wrong”(1970) was written, produced and directed by Harbans (Micky) Kumar for Deluxe Films Corporation. It was the first Carribean (West Indian) colour movie, produced in Trinidad and Tobago, a country with large population of Indian origin emigrants who left India and settled in that as well as neighbouring countries (such as Guyana, Suriname etc) a few centuries ago. Many West Indian Cricketers with Indian sounding names are descendents of those Indian origin people. Names like Sonny Ramadhin, Rohan Kanhai, Alvin Kalicharan, Shivnaraine Chanderpal, Ravi Rampal, Darren Ganga, Ramnaresh Sarwan are familiar to cricket lovers.

Today 23rd March 2021 is the ninetieth remembrance anniversary of martyr dome of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. They were hanged to death by the British regime on 23rd March 1931.
On this occasion as a tribute in remembrance of these great sons of this soil here is a song from the movie ‘23rd March 1931 Shaheed’ (2002).

Just to list a few of the famous Rafi solos and duets for Johny Walker.
This series is about collaborations and team work by Rafi Sahab for various artists, mainly with composers, singers and lyricists. But since the song I stumbled upon is too good, atypical rendition by Rafi Sahab for Johnny Walker, as we know the veteran comic actor. So I have included this in the series.

Here is a duet again by Geeta Dutt and Rafi Sahab as song no. 04 of the series. I shall try not to make this series of Raft-Geeta duets songs with every other song by them. No worries there I have a few interesting combination duets and truets lined up for this series and I can be forgiven if it is interspersed with a few of those gems by this jodi. The more popular ones by the likes of OPN and SDB are already in the blog, among the remaining are by music directors who are lesser known.
