Jaane Jaana Yoon Na Dekho Aaj Nafrat Se Mujhe” – this lovely lilting from the 1963 film ‘Faulaad’, is the creation of the songwriter Anjaan. A poet who has given us some of the most wonderful gems of the Hindi screen. Songs like “Pipraa Ke Patwaa Sarikhe Doley Manwaa” (‘Godaan’, 1963), “Bahaaro Thaam Lo Ab Dil, Mera Mehboob Aata Hai”(‘Namaste ji’, 1965), “Aap Ke Haseen Rukh Pe Aaj Nayaa Noor Hai”(‘Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi’, 1966),  “Aaj Tumse Door Ho Kar, Aise Royaa Mera Pyaar”(‘Ek Raat’, 1967), and “Bina Badraa Ke Bijuriyaa Kaise Chamke”(‘Bandhan’, 1969) – and on to “Rotey Huye Aate Hain Sab, Hansta Hua Jo Jaayegaa. . .”(‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, 1978), “Maano To Main Ganga Maa Hoon, Naa Maano Te Behtaa Paani”(‘Ganga Ki Saugandh’, 1978), “O Khaike Paan Barnaaras Waala” (‘Don’, 1978), “Pag Ghunghroo Baandh Meera Naachi Thi” (‘Namak Halaal’, 1982), “Gori Hain Kalaayi’aan, Tu La De Mujhe Hari Hari Choodiyaan” (‘Aaj Ka Arjun’, 1990). And many more.

Remembering Anjaan on the 22nd anniversary of his passing away, earlier this week (3rd September).

The years roll by – time stops for no one.

And, just like that, it is now 7 years since that day in 2012.

I still remember that day very well – I first got the news on Facebook.

One of my friends had posted “vaada tera vaada”, saying “RIP Rajesh Khanna”.

It shook me – I immediately checked Twitter for validation. (Now Twitter is known to post fake death news from time to time. Not so long ago, they had posted news of Mumtaz’s death – thankfully, fake.) But I wanted a second source.

Sadly, and I realized this very soon with a sinking feeling, the news on 18th July 2012 was not fake. Rajesh Khanna (or Kaka, as he was more affectionately known) HAD passed away. For the past year, he had been suffering from cancer – and the cancer had finally won.

If someone pops up the name Jethalal, and asks for an identification, I am sure you will be puzzled to start with. Yes, surely a strange name, that many of the folks interested in Hindi films, will not be familiar with. This name belongs to the dear and popular actor of Hindi films – Sanjeev Kumar. His full real name was Harihar Jethalal Jariwala. Ah yes, now very familiar, right? 🙂

Remembering Sanjeev Kumar on the anniversary of his birth today. Had he been alive, he would have been 81 years old, having been born in the year 1938.

Missing Films of 1960s – 112

Cricket is a distraction par excellence. 🙂  I am sure most of us bandwagoneers will agree.

That we are approaching the 151st century of songs on the blog, was being exchanged between Atul ji and myself for quite some days now. But the fact that we are also approaching the completion of the 4th millennium of no. of days of existence, almost went completely un-noticed by either of us. It was like just three or four days ago, that the tubelight came on in my mind. I immediately wrote to Atul ji. And equally immediately we agreed that we are on a threshold milestone that is more significant than the 151st century of songs.

During the 15k celebrations on our blog, our beloved Rajaji in his post – ‘Dil To Maane Naa, while congratulating all and wishing that this ‘musical journey’ just goes on and on … mentioned about the next target ‘15921’…!!! Now everyone was thinking of this ‘15921’? But it took Rajaji himself to give some hint and then it was disclosed to everyone. The figure was related to ‘Cricket Statistics’.
