Mukesh and his Composers – 29

I started my series on Mukesh and his Composers with the great Naushad Ali and had mentioned the reasons for the same in the post for the song “Kar Bhala Hoga Bhala“.

Mukesh and his Composers – 28A
——————————————–

As we continue our journey of posting obscure gems of Mukesh which are relatively less heard, we come across many interesting and sometimes unfortunate stories in the making of some the films. Sudhir ji sought to know, if I would be interested in posting a song from the film Society (early 70s, 1987, 2019). I said, I am aware that the song from this film is available, but I would take it up sometime later. However, he said that it must be part of the celebration of Mukesh’s birth centenary. It was an offer I could not refuse or postpone and hence this post.

Mukesh and his Composers – 28

‘Kal Subah’ was an unreleased film which was in the making during the 70’s. It was also probably the film’s composer Binay Bhushan’s first and last film. The director was GS Madhup and the production house belonged to Shringaar Films. I could not fetch details about the actors in the unreleased film. I request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie.

With the current count (prior to this post) at 818, there still is a good number of songs to be tracked and brought on board. The revised and updated Mukesh Geet Kosh (compiled by Shri Harish Raguvanshi of Surat) which was released in November of 2020, puts the number of Hindi songs identified at 980. The breakup of this number is given as

Mukesh and his Composers – 27

My apologies are in order but then, I can explain. Or so it seems.

In my recent post “Honee Rahe Ho Kar” on Mukesh’s association with composer Surinder Kohli, I had said that it was the only song sung by Mukesh under his composition. Recently, I found myself looking at this name for one more film. But then he is paired up with another composer called Gurubachan.

The Voice of Mukesh #72
– – – – – – – – – – – – –

I am sure the regulars will remember. Reviving this series after a gap of almost seven years. When I paused working on this series, I had already posted 71 of some of the most rare, less heard and not easily available songs of Mukesh. The songs posted were mainly from the decades of 1940s and 1950s. Although I had clicked on the pause button back in 2016, the work to bring on board more of Mukesh songs did continue. And it still does, with the tireless research effort of our resident Mukesh expert and mureed (मुरीद), dear Mahesh ji.

Mukesh and his Composers – 26

There are many songs of Mukesh which I avoid listening too often. For every time I listen to them, I like to savour the magic in his voice afresh. Some of such songs are “Aansoo Bhari Hain Ye Jeevan Ki Raahen“, “Jaane Kahaan Gaye Wo Din“, “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye“, “Ye Mera Deewaanapan Hai” and a host of many other songs. I know that the sample of above quoted songs are quite familiar and well-known, but then there are dozens of songs in the 40’s and 50’s which have additional flavor and uniqueness in them. It is extremely difficult to describe in words what effect the mind and soul experience on listening to such songs. Mukesh did sing them for situations in the film. What remains today of these movies is mainly the vocal impulses of his melodious voice.

Mukesh and his Composers – 25

Today, we come to the 25th post in this series wherein Mukesh’s association with various composers is discussed. Usually, the highlight of posts in such series is the listing of songs in a tabular form wherein all details can be studied/viewed at a glance. However, there are many composers for whom Mukesh sang only a handful of songs. In fact, for the last two posts, it was the case of a solitary song sung for Lachchiram – “Bigdi Mein Koi Poochhnewala Nahin Hota” and Nandu-Pyaare – “Kiski Dharti Kiska Gaam“.

Mukesh and his Composers – 24

LTNS is an unofficial Internet expression in vogue so much so that there is a wiki page too on it.
Well, its “Long Time No See” as far as my posts on the blog are concerned.
My honest excuses are detailed below.

Apart from the work routine, it was some sort of dejection that kept me away from writing. Dejection of meeting almost dead ends as far as search for rare Mukesh songs are concerned. It was my want of concentrating my efforts to try and trace rare songs that kept me away from adding new posts.
