A few days ago when it was Lata Mangeshkar’s birth anniversary on 28 september 2016, I posted a Lata writeup, where I mentioned that we have been discussing a Lata song almost on a daily basis right from the beginning of this blog 8 years ago. I knew that we had more than 3070 Lata songs in the blog. I became curious to find out the number of days for which this blog is active. At first I decided to do the calculation manually, but then decided that I should let technology do the hard work for me. So, after some trial and error, I got just the excel formula that I needed. It was then that I realised that the blog was 2994 days old at that time. I mentioned this fact in the blog. I also realised that we were very close to 3000 days mark. So I contacted a few regulars of the blog and requested them for their special writeups on the occasion.

“We are Team – Yippeeee!!”

# Location – Bunkers in South – The Head Quarters – ‘Yippeeee’- #
(Mar-April -2016)
Sitting in his digitalized, ‘Wi-Fi…ed- musical chamber, ‘Yippeeee Guru’ was restless after he recovered from a short break ( 🙂 , due to health problems and other priorities) of nearly six months from ‘Yippeeee’…
The messages through the unseen satellite waves were very well understood by ‘yours very sincerely’ and two other members of the ‘Yippeeee’ locations – one in the country as well as the other across the globe.
The contacts were soon into action and messages started flowing in to and fro!
‘Yippeeee’ group on ‘Whatsapp’ geared-up and emails started floating …
The ‘Yippeeee Guru’ soon took control of the blog too and he was seen enjoying earlier posts and commenting on them.
It seemed that he wanted to compensate for the ‘lull’ that was there for almost five-six months.
Yours sincerely sensed Guru’s restlessness and since he was the first point where it needed to be re-started, he sent a message to ‘Guru’, ‘Her Majesty’ and ‘Ben Katie’ (other two members of the group) …
‘Let us revive Yippeeee!!’

Hullo to all in Atuldom
We all know the meaning of the word “Bhaand”; for those not conversant with colloquial Hindi; googling the word throws up meanings —Clown, Mimic, Comedian etc. “Bhaands” are also traditionally folk entertainers which might mean a storyteller, minstrels, dancers, actors, impressionists etc. Most bhaands belong to families that are engaged in folk entertainment as their hereditary profession, their specific art forms vary greatly by region, community and language. The term bhaand itself can also mean either a specific dramatic story or an entire form/school of drama.

As mentioned in my previous post I had to travel in the East for some official work as a part of some strategic planning at my work place.
And at that time i.e. around second/third week of May, there was a discussion at my work place, that I could also be deputed for some official work at Chennai in near future.

This article is the 12100th song post in the blog.
Today, with this post, we arrive at the 12,100th post on this blog. That’s 121 centuries that this blog has clocked so far. The mind continues to boggle.
As a person who’s seen this blog from day one (from the time “mile na phool” was posted as the very first song on this blog), I feel elated everytime we reach a milestone. I still remember when Atul posted the 100th and then 200th and so on. Each one was an occasion for celebration. Because each one was a marker of progress on a journey that we knew would be a long (and highly enjoyable) one. We have done that 121 times now – and I think I speak for many of us when I say, ye dil maange more. :-).

roz aise hi hota hai, it happens almost every day. Every day, there is a song that comes to mind, or a song that someone reminds me of, or a ‘new’ old song that I get to hear – a song that is not yet on the blog, or maybe not yet online even. There is an immediate urge, a rush to sit down at my desk and finger type a new post on my laptop. And also upload it online, if need be. Many a time I even start it. The melody continues to hum in the mind. Always overlaid on to another melody that is now a fixture in the backdrop, a melody that you have heard me mention often in my writings – ye hansta hua kaarvan zindagi ka na poochho chala hai kidhar

Today (9 june 2016) happens to be the 26th death anniversary of Asad Bhopali (10 july 1921- 9 june 1990 ). The acronym of this blog ( Atul song a day) also reads ASAD. That way, many of us in this blog regard Asad Bhopali as the patron saint lyricist of this blog. 🙂

Today’s song is from the film Gharana(1961), a movie made by the famous Gemini Studios, Madras. The producer/director was S S Vasan- called the ‘Cecil B Demil’ of India, after his epic trend setter film Chandralekha way back in 1948. It was from this film that Hindi films started being made in south. In the beginning, it was only remakes of successful and Hit south films. Once this formula proved to be profitable, remakes of hit South Indian films began to constitute almost 80% of the Hindi films being made in south.
