1943 saw titles like “Khanjarwaali”(1943) and “Pistolwaali”(1943). These were stunt movies, viz movies catering to the taste of low brow audience. These movies have been forgotten with time and their songs are extremely difficult to locate. These movies are not yet represented in the blog.

“Maang” (1950) was directed by Saghir Usmani for New Light Film production, Bombay. The movie had Zia, Wasti, Mubarak, Ramola, Amar, Pratima, Malhotra, Leela Pande, Basu, Hemlata etc in it. Sajjaad Hussain – a name that invokes a feeling of rare and precious stones. Treasures that are scarce, and extremely hard to come by. Treasures that are small in numbers to start with anyway. Diamonds imbued with qualities that invoke surprise in how the emotions blend with the words, that blend into the music, that is breathtaking at times. Treasures always number very few. Leela Chitnis (1909-2003), who was known for portraying the role of a suffering mother during 1950s through 1970s was one among the early female actresses in 1930s with an educated background. She was the first film actress from India to appear in the advertisement for the Lux soap in 1941 which she endorsed at that time.
