“Shama” (1946) was produced by Sohrab Modi and directed by Sibtain Fazli. The movie had Mehtab, Chanda Bai, Sadat Ali, Ameer Banu etc in it. The movie had music by Ghulam Haider.

Interestingly, another movie of the same name was released in 1961 too. This movie had Suraiyya, Kumud Tripathi, Nimmi, Vijay Dutt etc in it. This movie had music by Ghulam Mohammad !

This is a comedy song from film NAGINA-51. The singers are Rafi and Shamshad. This was a Nutan- Nasir Khan film.

Sometime back I finished reading Nutan’s Biography, written by her close friend and noted journalist, Lalita Tamhane. The book is titled ‘ ASEN MEE…NASEN MEE ‘ (I may be…I may not be). Many interesting things which are not well known are mentioned in this book. I will try to describe a part of it, from Nutan’s early career, as I remember. Recently I watched GHAR KI IZZAT (1948) on YT. The film was produced under the banner of Murli Movietone and directed by Ram Daryani. The star cast included Dilip Kumar and Mumtaz Shanti in the lead role with Gope, Manorama, Dixit, Jeewan, Gulab, Suleman etc in the supporting roles. The melodramatic story of the film reminded me of some of the Hindi films produced from the South in the 50s and 60s.

Having worked in films like ‘Subah ka Sitara’ and Yahudi ki Ladki-1933, with the legendary singer Sehgal, her name had become famous already. She had also worked in Rooplekh-34 and karvaan-e-hayaat-35.
