During late 1950s, Shashdhar Mukherji and Agha Kashmiri were discussing the next movie of Fimalaya in the formers residence. Shashdhar Mukherji wanted to sign up Shammi Kapoor, but Agha Hashra Kashmiri pointed at the youngster arriving at the home and told Shashdhar Mukherji-“Here is the hero of your movie”. That younster of none other than Joy Mukherji, Shashdhar Mukherji’s son. Shashdhar Mukherji was skeptical but he entrusted the job of grooming Joy Mukherji as a hero on Kashmiri. The movie called “Love in Shimla” (1960) was shot and the movie succeeded at the box office.

PARDESI (1957) was an Indo-Soviet co-production film in Hindi and Russian languages . The Hindiversion of the film was directed by K A Abbas and the star cast included Balraj Sahani, Nargis, Oleg Strizhenov, Prithviraj Kapoor, Jairaj, David, Padmini. The film did not create a stir at the box office but was nominated for Cannes Film Festival (1958.) M R Acharekar got the Filmfare award for the best art direction (1958) for this film.

“Hum Log’ (1951) is a production from the banner of Ranjit Movietone, but more than that, it is a signature piece by Zia Sarhadi, who has written and directed this film. This film is one of the earlier examples of Neo-Realism in Indian Cinema, a school of cinematic expression that was pioneered in the west by directors such as Luis Bunuel (Spain), Vittorio DeSica (Italy), Luchino Visconti (Italy), Yasujiro Ozu (Japan) and Jean Renoir (France). Although the film did not have any commercial success, it still is considered as the cult classic in the genre of Neo-Realism in Indian Cinema.
