There are a few milestones in this blog that I eagerly look forward to. One of them is the obvious milestone of century songs. Every song that marks the completion of a century is a special song for this blog and we celebrate it by discussing a special song on that occasion. There have been 44 such occasions for this blog.

“Baat Ek Raat Ki” (1962) is a movie starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. When one looks at the songs of this movie, one notices that this movie had lots of singers singing lots of solos and duets. This movie had singers like Rafi,Lata, Manna Dey,Hemant Kumar,Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpuri. And this movie has duets sung by Rafi and Lata, Rafi and Asha Bhonsle, as well as Hemant Kumar and Suman Kalyanpur. In fact, Asha Bhonsle and Rafi sing as many as four duets in this movie.

Mehmood had given R D Burman his first break as an independent music director in “Chhote Nawaab” (1962). Ironically, R D Burman was unable to get any other assignment as an independent music director after that. He continued to work as an assistant to his father. We have stuff for a similar headline news on this blog. We have a new record for the fastest century of songs. Welcome to the 4200th offering of what is increasingly becoming a misnomer, Song-A-Day blog. With an average of over 7 songs posted per day, the musical journey from 4101 to 4200 has been covered in 14 days flat. This beats the previous record of 16 days. Congratulations ALL. 😀

Here is an absolute gem of a song that has been lying hidden all these decades.

This song is from “Nayi Kahaani” (1943). I am not only surprised that music lovers have forgotten this song, I am even more surprised at the fact that the print of this movie is still available and that too in a reasonably pristine condition, going by the print quality of this picturisation. So kudos to the people who have preserved the print of this movie in such a good condition.
